ABOUT THE JOB
The Sr. Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for data analytics and additional support for performance measures, ongoing measurement, data collection, reporting, data visualizations, and information dissemination. The Sr. Analyst is responsible for implementing the strategic design and maintenance of business intelligence applications. The Sr. Analyst will identify, research, and resolve technical problems. The Sr. Analyst will ensure that the use of business intelligence applications enhances business decision-making capabilities. The Sr. Analyst will engage in data exploration exercises with a variety of complex business intelligence tools, requiring knowledge of relational database structures. The Sr. Analyst will serve as a resource on complex technical and business matters. The Sr. Analyst will work independently and contribute to moderately complex to complex aspects of projects. Provides a leadership role for work groups using knowledge in the area of specialization. The Sr. Analyst will collaborate with other analytic teams and central engineering team as directed. The Sr. Analyst will work under the supervision of a Data Trust Analytic Team Leader or other data governance or analytic leadership appropriate for the scope of work. This supervision may be through a matrixed or direct reporting structure.
Situated within the Office of Advancement Services (OAS), the Relationship Management and Prospect Analytics (RMPA) function supports frontline fundraising efforts by establishing and maintaining policy and practice related to the tracking and coordination of prospect activity through the donor cycle, focused on the strategic management of major and principal gift prospects. The RMPA team partners with fundraisers to optimize portfolio and pipeline management; establish systems and workflows for prospect qualification; track and report on performance metrics; and develop data tools, systems, and reporting in support of these efforts.
The Sr. Business Intelligence Analyst will oversee key projects and tasks within the Prospect Analytics function of RMPA, which oversees data management, analysis, and visualization for major and principal gift prospect data. The incumbent will extract, synthesize, and analyze data from the JHAS Salesforce database for quantitative and qualitative prospect analytics projects, and will develop and maintain reporting and data visualization tools for prospect data for the DAR enterprise.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for data analytics and additional support for performance measures, ongoing measurement, data collection, reporting, data visualizations, and information dissemination.
- Responsible for implementing the strategic design and maintenance of business intelligence applications. Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems.
- Ensure that the use of business intelligence applications enhances business decision-making capabilities.
- Engage in data exploration exercises with a variety of complex business intelligence tools, requiring knowledge of relational database structures.
- Serve as a resource on complex technical and business matters.
- Provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization.
- Collaborate with other analytic teams and central engineering team as directed.
- Make appropriate decisions, using available resources, to achieve positive outcomes for patients, visitors, staff, and students in balance with sound business practice.
- Make recommendations for changes in the current departmental systems and processes and contribute ideas and suggestions for solutions to problems.
- Respond to urgent, impromptu, and unplanned situations by assessing their level of importance, instituting appropriate action and appropriately managing information and communication.
- Communicate decisions to appropriate management.
- Prepare incident/occurrence reports as necessary.
- Prioritize daily tasks and assignments appropriately.
- Complete mandatory Epic and/or other software or analytic tool training as required.
- Collaborate with other analytic teams as directed.
- Report and follow-up on software problems delaying workflow.
- Other duties as assigned.
In addition to the duties described above, the Sr. Business Intelligence Analyst will:
- Partner with Director and Sr. Associate Director to support the design and execution of quantitative and qualitative analytics projects to support decision making around major and principal gift fundraising through the campaign and beyond.
- Collaborate with Advancement leadership and peer institutions to translate fundraising priorities into prospect scoring frameworks and analytics roadmaps that support prospect identification, qualification, and engagement strategies.
- Apply statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and data storytelling techniques to develop scoring methodologies and design, develop, and maintain prospect scoring models and analytical tools to support fundraising efforts and organizational priorities.
- Build and maintain reporting and data visualization tools, in line with DAR business priorities, to support gift officer performance tracking, major and principal gift prospect management, and prospect and proposal pipeline tracking and projections.
- Present insights and analyses in clear, compelling, and accessible formats for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Translate data and analytical findings into actionable recommendations that inform fundraising strategy, portfolio management, and operational processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field.
- Four years of related experience, including two years of data analytics experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education permitted by the JHU equivalency formula beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Three to four years experience in data analytics.
- Experience in non-profit fundraising field, preferably at a large, complex institution.
- Expertise in statistical modeling, advanced data analytics methods, and associated tools.
- Expertise in database querying using SQL, SOQL.
- Proficiency with reporting and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik Sense, etc.).
- Proficiency in advanced Excel functions (Power Query, VBA, Macros, Pivot Tables, Simulations).
- Expertise in ETL processes; understanding of data models and data warehousing concepts.
- Experience with a Salesforce-based CRM system.
- Ability and willingness to understand the business of fundraising and how data insights can inform and drive decisions.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Ability to think strategically and innovatively to serve evolving business needs.
LOCATION
Location: JH at Keswick
COMPENSATION
- Starting Salary Range: Minimum: $62,899 - Maximum: $110,100 (targeted salary: $87k-$93k commensurate with experience)
Employee group: Full Time
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
FLSA Status: Exempt

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE EQUIVALENCY
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
