An MBA is common but not universally required.

Maryland's concentration of defense contractors, health insurers, and government IT firms means demand for senior sales leadership remains durable even in slower hiring cycles.
Which Maryland cities have the most vice president sales jobs?
The Maryland cities with the most vice president sales openings are Baltimore, Bethesda, and Rockville. Baltimore drives volume through its healthcare, financial services, and logistics employers, while the Montgomery County suburbs of Bethesda and Rockville reflect the density of government IT contractors and biotech firms serving the federal corridor, making suburban Maryland a particularly active hiring zone for senior sales roles.
Are there remote vice president sales jobs in Maryland?

The most realistic path is building a record in mid-level sales management before targeting VP-level openings. In Maryland, moving from a regional sales manager or director of sales role at a defense contractor, health system, or government technology firm into a VP position is the most common internal ladder. Large Maryland employers including Leidos and CareFirst occasionally post director-level rotational or leadership development programs. Earning a Certified Sales Leadership Professional designation or completing an MBA through a Maryland institution like the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business strengthens a candidate's profile meaningfully.
