Most vice president sales roles in Illinois require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related discipline, though many employers prefer an MBA. Illinois does not mandate a state-issued license for sales leadership roles. The typical path runs through individual contributor positions into sales management, then director-level roles before reaching VP. Industries like financial services and insurance may require FINRA or state producer licenses depending on what the team sells.

Vice president saleses in Illinois earn a median of about $155,280 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,760 for the lowest 10% to over $282,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire vice president saless in Illinois?
Employers hiring vice president saless in Illinois right now include JPMorganChase, Servbank, sb, and Highwire, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's density of Fortune 500 headquarters and mid-market technology firms in the Chicago metro creates consistent VP-level sales demand across industries.
Which Illinois cities have the most vice president sales jobs?
Chicago, Springfield, and Peoria have the most vice president sales openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the bulk of demand as home to major corporate headquarters across financial services, healthcare, and technology, while Schaumburg and Deerfield attract openings through the large enterprise and life sciences employers anchored in those suburban corridors.
Are there remote vice president sales jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields, since sales leadership work is largely strategic and communication-driven rather than tied to a physical site. About 56% of vice president sales openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Revenue strategy, pipeline oversight, and team coaching are the functions most commonly performed remotely, while in-person expectations increase for roles requiring direct client relationship management.
How can I get hired as a vice president sales in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a record in a quota-carrying individual contributor or sales management role first, then targeting director-level openings at mid-market Illinois companies before stepping into VP roles. Large Illinois employers like Zebra Technologies and Acco Brands hire sales managers who move up internally. Lateral moves from account executive, regional manager, or business development director roles are common. Completing an MBA at a Chicago-area institution strengthens candidacy significantly.
