Job Description
Vice President, Global Growth Director – Defense Prime/OEM Facilities & Vertical Construction
This is a high-impact leadership role within AECOM's Design Practice, responsible for defining and executing the US strategy for engagement with Defense Primes / OEM clients as it pertains to vertical construction, facilities delivery, and architectural and engineering design. This includes manufacturing and final assembly facilities, hangars and MRO facilities, training facilities, SCIF/SAPF and other ICD 705-compliant secure facilities, and program office space delivered at Defense Primes / OEM sites and government installations.
The position carries accountability for client relationships, growth strategy, pipeline development, capture, and delivery performance across AECOM’s Design practice. It combines strategic leadership with hands-on account execution to drive growth, strengthen client partnerships, and deliver consistent performance.
The primary role focuses on the U.S. market, but will also involve interaction with other AECOM regions including the UK, Continental Europe, Middle East, and Australia/New Zealand. This role is focused on Defense Primes / OEM clients (Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, BAE, RTX, etc.) — candidates with hands-on experience delivering vertical construction and facilities projects for these clients, at their own sites or at government-owned/contractor-operated facilities, will be looked upon most favorably. A background that spans a role with defense Primes / OEMs, followed by a career in A&E vertical construction delivery, is an ideal profile for this position.
This position will report to the AECOM’s Global Design Practice SVP, Head of Strategy & Growth, and will work closely with our US DOW Team and global defense leaders across the company.
We welcome applications from candidates who are already performing in a similar role, as well as those who have the experience, capability, and ambition to take the next logical step in their career progression into this position.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have a background in architecture, engineering, or a related A/E discipline with direct delivery experience on vertical construction projects (e.g., building design, building engineering, planning, or program/construction management) for Defense Primes / OEM clients — pure IT, cybersecurity, digital systems integration, or general business development backgrounds without hands-on A&E design or delivery experience will not meet the qualifications for this role.
- BA/BS +20 years’ experience or equivalent, including 4 years of leadership experience
- Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is required
- Proven experience working with Defense Primes / OEM clients and US DOW agencies on facilities and vertical construction programs (e.g., manufacturing, and final assembly facilities, hangars and MRO facilities, training facilities, SCIF/SAPF facilities, barracks)
- Commercial knowledge of the Defense Primes / OEM clients industry in relation to infrastructure needs, contracts, fees, and industry needs
- Leadership experience operating across geographies and multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated success leading accounts, complex pursuits, and multi-region delivery
Preferred background:
- Commercially astute, with executive stakeholder engagement skills
- Industrial background & experience in advanced manufacturing
- Direct project experience on Weapon System Bed downs, SCIF/SAPF or other ICD 705-compliant facilities, training facilities, hangars, MRO facilities, final assembly buildings, or program office space delivered for Defense Primes / OEM clients
Additional Information
- Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position
- Relocation is not available for this position

Tips for Your Vice President Sales Job Search
Quantify revenue impact on your resume
Hiring teams at the VP level want numbers, not narratives. Replace phrases like 'grew the sales team' with the actual ARR added, quota attainment percentage, or team headcount you scaled. Boards approve these hires on ROI, so your resume has to make that case first.
Align your pipeline methodology to the job
Descriptions for vice president sales roles almost always name a methodology like MEDDIC, Challenger, or SPIN. Read each posting carefully and mirror the language in your cover letter and resume. Misalignment here is one of the fastest ways to get screened out before a phone call.
Target companies in your specific growth stage
A VP of sales who excels at building a zero-to-one team looks very different from one who scales a mature revenue org. Filter openings by whether the company is pre-Series B, post-IPO, or in a turnaround, and only apply where your experience actually maps to that stage.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists vice president sales openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a 30-60-90 day plan before interviews
Most hiring processes for vice president sales roles include a final-round presentation. Build a concrete plan showing how you'd assess the existing team, establish early wins, and set a longer-term pipeline strategy. Generic frameworks won't separate you from other finalists who show up with the same slides.
Negotiate beyond base in your offer discussion
VP-level sales compensation is heavily weighted toward variable pay, equity, and quota structure. Before you respond to an offer, get clarity on OTE assumptions, accelerators above quota, cliff and vesting terms, and whether the quota is based on historical attainment or a new number the company is projecting.
Vice President Sales Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most vice president saless?
The companies hiring the most vice president saless right now include JPMorganChase, Citi, and icapital, with the largest share of openings in New York, Texas, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Technology, healthcare, and financial services consistently account for a large portion of active VP-level sales openings nationwide.
How many vice president sales jobs are remote?
About 84% of vice president sales openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the senior nature of the role and the expectation that leaders can manage distributed teams. Enterprise and SaaS-focused positions tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while roles tied to field sales organizations or manufacturing often require a regular on-site presence.
How do you become a vice president sales?
You typically reach a vice president sales role by progressing from individual contributor to sales manager, then to director, building a record of consistent quota attainment and team leadership at each stage. Developing skills in revenue forecasting, hiring, and cross-functional collaboration with marketing and finance strengthens your candidacy. Exposure to a specific industry vertical or deal complexity, such as enterprise or channel, makes the transition faster at many organizations.
Can you get hired as a vice president sales with limited leadership experience?
It's difficult but possible if you can demonstrate that you've owned revenue outcomes, built processes, and influenced a team even without a direct management title. Some companies, particularly early-stage startups, will hire a first VP of sales from a senior individual contributor background if the candidate shows clear strategic thinking and the ability to hire and develop reps quickly. A strong network and internal champion inside the company can also offset a thin formal leadership history.
What does the vice president sales interview process look like?
The process usually starts with a recruiter screen, followed by conversations with the CEO or CRO and other department heads such as marketing and finance. Later rounds typically include a structured case study or presentation where you lay out a go-to-market plan or diagnose a sales challenge the company is facing. Reference checks at this level are thorough and often include contacts beyond the ones you provide, so expect your reputation in the market to be part of the evaluation.
Where can I find and apply to vice president sales jobs?
You can find and apply to vice president sales jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and apply directly to each listing on the platform.
