The VP of Property Technology has full oversight for technology within the four walls of our hotels, restaurants, and spas. We use third-party MSPs for 24x7 IT break-fix support, so this role is less support and more project management, brand compliance, capital planning, Operating Expense budgeting, vendor management, coordination of property transitions/openings/construction/renovations, new property due diligence, and strategic direction for the Property Technology function. The ideal candidate is someone who has the technical skill to go on a site visit solo and come up with a transition checklist, the project management skills to manage complex system upgrades/installations including vendor coordination and management, and the political savvy to work with other VPs at Sage to represent IT interests in the broader scope of hotel/restaurant operations. Further, the ideal candidate should feel confident explaining IT expenses, IT vendor decisions, and IT architectures to property owners, asset managers, and major hotel brands.
The VP of Property Technology will collaborate with VPs of Operations, VPs of Operations Finance, hotel and restaurant General Managers, property owners and asset managers to ensure the successful funding and operation of technology solutions at Sage-managed properties.
- Accountability for the operation of all property technology solutions
- Collaboration with VPs of Operations and VPs of Operations Finance on annual property budgets
- Project management and ownership for all IT activities for a small portfolio of hotels
- Stay abreast of all brand guidance (e.g., mobile key, associate alert systems) for major hospitality brands such as Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Wyndham and Choice
- Stay abreast of hospitality technology trends, vendors and cost-efficient solutions
- Serve as point of escalation for all technology vendor relationships, including MSP partners
- Serve as technical expert in conversations with business development leaders and current and prospective property owners and asset managers
- Advocate for technology solutions that are cost-efficient, reliable, scalable, secure and accurate
- Direct timely and effective management of IT related projects including system upgrades, server replacements, network infrastructure initiatives, etc.
- Manage all hardware/software selection, maintenance, upgrade, and end-of-life planning
- Research and offer technical solutions for friction/pain points at properties
- Align organizational strategy with systems design and development
- Make informed recommendations for all systems that reflect thorough research and references
- Lead the network and infrastructure design and implementation process for new hotels in accordance with budget and timeline constraints
- Identify and champion technology capabilities that improve property operations, guest experience, reliability, scalability, security, and business performance
- Research and recommend system upgrades for property and above-property technology platforms
- Ability to analyze complex technical information and findings, and present it to leadership in a cost and benefit framework
- Provide effective project management on enterprise-wide initiatives pertaining to IT
- Partner with Information Security to ensure property technology solutions, vendors, projects, openings, and transitions meet Sage cybersecurity, technology risk, and compliance requirements

- All other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Provide coaching and career development to a team of property technology associates. Most importantly, keep the team’s technical skills relevant through continuous learning, training, certifications, conferences and networking with other hospitality companies.
2-5 direct reports with a full team size of 5-10, not including consultants and third-party MSPs
Knowledge/Skills
- Working knowledge of major hospitality systems including PMS, POS, CRS, CRM, HSIA, telephony, TV solutions, key/lock systems, data circuits, and credit card processing applications
- Strong familiarity with Sales & Catering systems, Revenue Management systems, HR/timekeeping systems, and AI messaging/chat bot solutions
- Awareness of technology systems in other functional areas such as Finance, Accounting, Marketing (vanity websites, social media), and Risk Management
- Microsoft Office Suite and other productivity solutions such as Box.com, Zoom and email
- Must possess excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Proven experience leading in-house and third-party IT resources in a consumer-oriented business
- Effective leadership and knowledge of relevant cyber security initiatives including PCI compliance, Personally Identifiable Information (PII) legislation (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, NY SHIELD Act), network administration, information security, firewall administration, and MSSP outsourcing in a multi-unit environment
- High-touch, proactive customer service mentality
- Conflict de-escalation in high-stress situations with multiple stakeholders
- Servant leadership and heart-led leadership; no task is beneath you
- Ability to communicate technical topics in plain English and positively influence and persuade IT stakeholders across the organization
- Ability to lead company into new and better technology applications for customers and employees
- Hands-on experience with Generative AI (LLM) solutions such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, or Google’s Gemini
Education/Formal Training
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred. Training and certifications in computer-related specialties preferred.
Experience
10+ years progressive experience as an effective leader for a multi-property, multi-state organization. Ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with hospitality technology, from practitioner to leader.

- Requires sitting most of the time, but does entail walking, standing and carrying of up to 15 pounds short distances.
- Requires a significant amount of repetitive motion for keyboarding.
