Tips for Your Commercial Real Estate Job Search
Quantify deals on your resume
List transaction volume, square footage leased, or occupancy rates you moved rather than job duties. Hiring managers in commercial real estate respond to deal metrics, not task descriptions, so put the numbers front and center in your bullet points.
Earn a relevant industry credential
A CCIM designation or a state real estate license signals to employers that you understand commercial transactions, not just concepts. If you're early in your career, prioritizing one certification sharpens your candidacy faster than a broad generalist resume.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists commercial real estate openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target firms by asset class focus
Retail, industrial, multifamily, and office employers each look for slightly different experience. Filter your search by asset class so your resume speaks directly to the deals and tenants that matter most to each firm's portfolio.
Prepare a deal sheet for interviews
Bring a one-page summary of your notable transactions, including asset type, deal size, your specific role, and the outcome. Commercial real estate interviews frequently turn into deal walk-throughs, and a prepared sheet keeps your answers precise and credible.
Follow up after final-round interviews
Send a concise note within 24 hours referencing a specific deal type or market the interviewer mentioned. Commercial real estate is a relationship-driven industry, and a well-timed follow-up reinforces your attention to detail and genuine interest in the firm.
Commercial Real Estate Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most commercial real estates?
The companies hiring the most commercial real estates right now include First American, City National Bank, and Jobot, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to be heaviest at brokerage firms, REITs, and commercial property management companies.
How many commercial real estate jobs are remote?
About 32% of commercial real estate openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though many roles require on-site property visits or client meetings that limit full-time remote arrangements. Analyst, underwriting, and asset management roles tend to offer the most schedule flexibility compared to leasing and property management positions.
How do you become a commercial real estate professional?
Start by earning a degree in real estate, finance, or business, then obtain a state real estate license, which is required for most client-facing roles. Build underwriting and financial modeling skills, get exposure to a specific asset class through internships or entry-level analyst work, and pursue a CCIM or similar designation as your experience grows.
Can you get hired in commercial real estate with little experience?
Yes, many firms hire candidates with limited direct experience if you can demonstrate strong financial modeling skills and genuine knowledge of a specific asset class. Starting as a research analyst, transaction coordinator, or property management assistant lets you build a deal history quickly, and a state real estate license obtained before your search gives your application a concrete credential.
What does the commercial real estate interview process look like?
Most processes include an initial recruiter or hiring manager screen, followed by a technical round where you may be asked to walk through a deal, build a basic model, or analyze a sample lease. Final rounds often involve senior brokers or partners and focus on your market knowledge, client handling experience, and understanding of the firm's specific asset class focus.
Where can I find and apply to commercial real estate jobs?
You can find and apply to commercial real estate jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and asset class focus, then apply directly to each one that fits.
