California does not require a state-issued license for this role. Progression typically moves from analyst to senior analyst over several years, with candidates building expertise in SQL, BI platforms like Tableau or Power BI, and cross-functional stakeholder work at California technology, healthcare, or financial services employers.
How much do senior business intelligence analysts make in California?
Senior business intelligence analysts in California earn a median of about $141,590 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,480 for the lowest 10% to over $224,920 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior business intelligence analysts in California?
Employers hiring senior business intelligence analysts in California right now include Intuit, Apple, and Walmart, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's density of technology headquarters, major health systems, and financial institutions means demand for senior-level BI talent remains broad across both established corporations and growth-stage companies.
Which California cities have the most senior business intelligence analyst jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Mountain View account for the most senior business intelligence analyst openings in California, driven by the concentration of technology headquarters and venture-backed companies in the Bay Area, major entertainment and financial services employers in Los Angeles, and a growing life sciences and defense sector in San Diego that relies heavily on data-driven decision-making.
Are there remote senior business intelligence analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Business intelligence work is inherently desk-based and output-driven, making it well suited to remote arrangements. The most realistic entry path is through a junior or associate business analyst role at a California technology or healthcare company, where you build SQL and dashboard skills on real production data. Large California employers like Salesforce, Kaiser Permanente, and Bank of the West have historically run structured rotational or new-graduate analytics programs.
