Campaign Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a campaign manager in California?
Most campaign managers in California build toward the role through a bachelor's degree in political science, communications, or marketing, followed by hands-on work in field organizing, digital advertising, or communications coordination. California does not require a state-issued license for political or marketing campaign managers, but experience with California Fair Political Practices Commission compliance and knowledge of state disclosure rules are genuine hiring advantages. Many professionals move up from roles as field organizers, campaign coordinators, or marketing specialists at California-based advocacy groups, political consulting firms, or large brand advertisers.
How much do campaign managers make in California?
Campaign managers in California earn a median of about $193,620 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $104,370 for the lowest 10% to over $326,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire campaign managers in California?
Employers hiring campaign managers in California right now include NVIDIA, Stripe, and TikTok, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology companies, entertainment studios, and statewide political organizations means demand cuts across industries and is not limited to any single sector.
Which California cities have the most campaign manager jobs?
San Francisco, Santa Clara, and Los Angeles have the most campaign manager openings in California. Los Angeles drives volume through its entertainment, consumer brand, and advocacy sectors, San Francisco and the broader Bay Area reflect demand from technology companies running product and policy campaigns, and Sacramento draws openings tied to state government affairs, legislative advocacy, and political consulting firms operating close to the Capitol.
Are there remote campaign manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles, because campaign strategy, digital advertising management, and content planning translate well to distributed teams. About 26% of campaign manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly technology and advocacy employers have adopted flexible work arrangements. The most remote-friendly functions tend to be paid media management, email and content strategy, and data analytics, while field-based or event-driven campaign roles typically require an in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a campaign manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a field organizer, marketing coordinator, or communications associate role at a California-based political consulting firm, advocacy organization, or mid-size consumer brand. Large California employers including county Democratic and Republican party organizations, Sacramento-area lobbying firms, and Bay Area technology companies with policy teams regularly hire associates and junior coordinators who work up through campaign cycles. Building a portfolio of independently managed social media campaigns, email fundraising projects, or community outreach efforts, combined with familiarity with NGP VAN or a major CRM platform, gives candidates without formal experience a concrete edge.
Where can I find and apply to campaign manager jobs in California?
