Senior Staff Data Engineer Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior staff data engineer in Mississippi?
The path to a senior staff data engineer role in Mississippi runs through a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a related field, followed by progressive engineering experience. Mississippi does not require a state-issued license for this role. Most hiring managers in the state look for candidates who have moved through data engineer and staff engineer titles at Mississippi-based companies or at organizations serving the state's healthcare, government, or financial services sectors.
How much do senior staff data engineers make in Mississippi?
Senior staff data engineers in Mississippi earn a median of about $95,330 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $44,700 for the lowest 10% to over $158,300 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior staff data engineers in Mississippi?
Employers hiring senior staff data engineers in Mississippi right now include Walmart, CVS Health, and Baptist Memorial Health Care, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mississippi's government technology initiatives and the concentration of regional healthcare systems in the Jackson metro make these among the most consistent sources of senior-level openings in the state.
Which Mississippi cities have the most senior staff data engineer jobs?
The cities with the most senior staff data engineer openings in Mississippi are Jackson, Laurel, and Hattiesburg. Jackson drives the largest share of listings as the state capital and commercial hub, where government agencies, regional banks, and major health systems are headquartered, while Ridgeland and Hattiesburg contribute openings tied to technology services firms and university-affiliated healthcare operations.
Are there remote senior staff data engineer jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 12% of senior staff data engineer openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the largely desk-based and platform-focused nature of the work. Architecture design, pipeline development, and data governance responsibilities translate well to remote arrangements, even when the employer is headquartered in Mississippi.
How can I get hired as a senior staff data engineer in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic starting point is a junior or associate data engineer role at a Mississippi-based healthcare system, state agency, or financial services firm, where rotational or apprentice-style programs sometimes exist for new graduates. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as data analyst, BI developer, or ETL developer have the strongest lateral path.
