Social Worker Jobs in Baltimore: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a social worker job in Baltimore?
Focus your search on Baltimore's largest hiring sectors: hospital systems in the East Baltimore medical corridor, the city's public child welfare and behavioral health agencies, and the dense network of nonprofits serving communities like Sandtown-Winchester and Park Heights. Candidates who have direct Baltimore community experience, fluency with the city's public benefits landscape, or prior work with agencies like BCDSS gain a real edge over applicants with no local context.
Which companies hire social workers in Baltimore?
Employers hiring social workers in Baltimore right now include University of Maryland Medical System, Johns Hopkins Health System, and Lifebridge Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Baltimore's hiring mix is weighted toward large academic medical centers, city and county government agencies, and community-based nonprofits serving high-need neighborhoods.
Are there remote social worker jobs in Baltimore?
Yes, though most social worker roles require in-person contact, so fully remote positions are limited compared to desk-based fields. About 29% of social worker openings tied to Baltimore are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with telehealth counseling and care coordination roles being the most likely to offer that flexibility locally.
How can I get a social worker job in Baltimore with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Baltimore is through the city's extensive network of community nonprofits and public agencies, many of which hire case aides, community health workers, and support staff who work alongside licensed social workers. Organizations focused on housing instability, youth services, and substance use recovery in neighborhoods like Upton and Cherry Hill frequently bring on entry-level candidates and provide supervised hours toward licensure.
Which industries hire the most social workers in Baltimore?
Baltimore social worker roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Government & Public Sector, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Baltimore's position as a regional medical hub anchored by major academic health systems, combined with its high concentration of city-funded human services programs, keeps demand steady across those sectors year-round.
