Social Worker Jobs in St. Louis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a social worker job in St. Louis?
The strongest hiring in St. Louis comes from hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, child welfare organizations, and behavioral health agencies. Concentrations of openings sit in the Central West End medical corridor, Midtown nonprofits, and North City community organizations. Candidates who hold a clinical licensure track, bilingual Spanish skills, or experience in substance use treatment tend to move faster through local hiring pipelines than generalists.
Which companies hire social workers in St. Louis?
Employers hiring social workers in St. Louis right now include State of Missouri, BJC HealthCare, and SSM Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market is anchored by large academic medical centers, county-contracted child welfare agencies, and a dense network of nonprofit service organizations that collectively account for most full-time openings.
Are there remote social worker jobs in St. Louis?
Yes, though remote availability is limited because most social worker roles involve direct client contact, home visits, or court appearances that require physical presence. About 60% of social worker openings tied to St. Louis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated in care coordination, case management documentation, and telehealth counseling roles rather than direct field positions.
How can I get a social worker job in St. Louis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in St. Louis is through a field placement or practicum with a local hospital, community mental health center, or child welfare agency that regularly converts students to staff. Entry-level case aide, family support specialist, and crisis line positions at North City nonprofits and St. Louis County human services offices frequently hire candidates without prior professional experience, especially those with completed BSW coursework or relevant volunteer work with underserved populations.
Which industries hire the most social workers in St. Louis?
The sectors hiring the most social workers in St. Louis are Healthcare & Medical Services and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. St. Louis's dense concentration of academic medical centers, federally funded community health programs, and longstanding nonprofit human services infrastructure drives sustained demand across all three sectors year-round.
