Dental Hygienist Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a dental hygienist in Missouri?
You must hold an active license issued by the Missouri Dental Board, which requires completing an accredited dental hygiene program and passing both the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and a regional clinical board exam. After passing both exams, you apply directly to the Missouri Dental Board for licensure. Missouri also participates in a licensure-by-credential process for hygienists already licensed in other states who meet Missouri's requirements.
How much do dental hygienists make in Missouri?
Dental hygienists in Missouri earn a median of about $92,750 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,880 for the lowest 10% to over $99,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire dental hygienists in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring dental hygienists in Missouri include Heartland Dental, Aspen Dental, and Dental Depot, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's mix of large dental service organizations with multi-location footprints and independently owned private practices means openings are distributed across urban centers and smaller communities alike.
Which Missouri cities have the most dental hygienist jobs?
St. Louis, Kansas City, and Brentwood have the most dental hygienist openings in Missouri. Kansas City and St. Louis lead because of their large and growing populations, concentration of dental service organizations, and proximity to dental hygiene training programs that feed local hiring pipelines, while Springfield's standing as the anchor city of southwest Missouri draws steady demand from both private practices and community health networks.
Are there remote dental hygienist jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of dental hygienist openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which reflects the hands-on clinical nature of the role. The small share of remote work that does exist tends to involve administrative or care-coordination functions, such as insurance verification, patient outreach, or tele-dentistry support roles attached to larger dental organizations.
How can I get hired as a dental hygienist in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to dental service organizations that regularly onboard new graduates, such as Heartland Dental and Aspen Dental, both of which have strong Missouri footprints and structured mentorship for early-career hygienists. Community health centers funded through Missouri's Federally Qualified Health Center network also hire new graduates and offer supervised clinical environments. Holding a current Missouri Dental Board license and a valid CPR certification before you apply removes the most common early-stage barriers.
Where can I find and apply to dental hygienist jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to dental hygienist jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings updated regularly. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your license level and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit your background.
