Software Engineer Jobs in Colorado Springs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a software engineer job in Colorado Springs?
Colorado Springs hiring concentrates in defense contracting, cybersecurity, and aerospace, so candidates who hold or can obtain a security clearance have a clear edge over the general applicant pool. Focus your search on employers near Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, and Fort Carson, where embedded software and systems engineering roles are most active. Familiarity with government-adjacent development environments and cleared-facility work culture strengthens your candidacy significantly here.
Which companies hire software engineers in Colorado Springs?
Companies currently hiring software engineers in Colorado Springs include Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and KBR, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market skews heavily toward defense primes, government contractors, and space technology firms rather than the consumer-tech employers more common in Denver.
Are there remote software engineer jobs in Colorado Springs?
Yes, though availability depends on the role. Software engineering is one of the more remote-compatible occupations, but Colorado Springs positions tied to defense and government contracts often require on-site or cleared-facility work. About 29% of software engineer openings tied to Colorado Springs are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with fully remote roles most common in commercial software and SaaS companies rather than defense contractors.
How can I get a software engineer job in Colorado Springs with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path locally is through junior or associate developer roles at mid-size defense contractors and technology services firms, which regularly hire candidates still building their clearance eligibility. Colorado Springs also has a pipeline through UCCS computer science programs and coding bootcamp graduates who land first roles at local government IT vendors and commercial software shops in the Briargate corridor. Contributing to open-source projects and earning cloud certifications helps differentiate entry-level applicants in this market.
Which industries hire the most software engineers in Colorado Springs?
The sectors hiring the most software engineers in Colorado Springs are Technology & Software, Aerospace & Defense, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Colorado Springs' proximity to multiple Space Force and Army installations makes defense technology and aerospace the dominant drivers of local software engineering demand, with commercial software and IT services filling out the remainder.
