Software Test Engineer Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software test engineer in Florida?
Start with a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information technology, which is the baseline Florida employers expect. Florida has no state-issued license for this role, so hiring decisions hinge on demonstrated skills and recognized industry certifications such as ISTQB Foundation Level. Building a portfolio of real test scripts and contributing to open-source projects strengthens applications to Florida's aerospace, fintech, and healthcare IT employers significantly.
How much do software test engineers make in Florida?
Software test engineers in Florida earn a median of about $100,210 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,970 for the lowest 10% to over $150,620 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software test engineers in Florida?
Employers hiring software test engineers in Florida right now include Worth AI, L3Harris, and Northrop Grumman, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's concentration of defense contractors near Orlando and fintech firms in Tampa creates consistent demand from large, established organizations with dedicated QA teams.
Which Florida cities have the most software test engineer jobs?
Orlando, Miami, and Tampa have the most software test engineer openings in Florida. Orlando leads because of its dense cluster of aerospace, defense, and simulation technology employers, while Tampa's fintech and healthcare IT sectors drive strong volume, and Miami's growing tech corridor attracts enterprise software companies that rely on dedicated QA engineering teams.
Are there remote software test engineer jobs in Florida?
Yes, and more than most fields, since software test engineering is largely a desk-based, tool-driven discipline. About 33% of software test engineer openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how well the work translates to distributed teams. Automation-focused and performance testing roles tend to offer the highest share of fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a software test engineer in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a QA analyst role, which Florida employers in healthcare IT and fintech routinely fill with candidates who have a relevant degree and a basic ISTQB Foundation certification. Lockheed Martin and Cognizant both run associate and rotational programs in Florida that place early-career candidates into structured QA teams. Adjacent roles like technical support analyst or business systems analyst at Florida-based companies often move laterally into testing once you demonstrate scripting ability or Jira proficiency.
