Support Engineer Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a support engineer in Florida?
Most Florida employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field alongside hands-on troubleshooting experience. Florida does not require a state-issued license for support engineering roles, so the hiring path runs through technical certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or vendor credentials from Cisco or Microsoft. Building lab experience, contributing to open-source projects, or completing an internship with a Florida technology firm or defense contractor strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
Which companies hire support engineers in Florida?
Employers hiring support engineers in Florida right now include Axiom Technologies, Ryder System, and Northrop Grumman, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's concentration of defense contractors, healthcare IT firms, and regional technology service providers means consistent demand well beyond the largest national names.
Which Florida cities have the most support engineer jobs?
Tampa, Orlando, and Miami account for the most support engineer openings in Florida. Miami's role as a regional technology and finance hub, Tampa's growing cybersecurity and managed-services sector, and Orlando's defense and simulation industry presence drive the bulk of postings, while smaller markets like Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale contribute additional volume tied to healthcare IT and corporate headquarters operations.
Are there remote support engineer jobs in Florida?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 37% of support engineer openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the work, ticket triage, system monitoring, and user troubleshooting, can be done effectively outside a physical office. Roles involving hands-on hardware installation or on-site data center work remain predominantly in-person.
How can I get hired as a support engineer in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a tier-one helpdesk or IT support associate role, which large Florida employers like AdventHealth, Leidos, and Raymond James use as a pipeline into engineering teams. Completing a CompTIA A+ or Google IT Support certificate gives candidates a concrete credential to show. Community college IT programs at institutions like Valencia College and Miami Dade College offer hands-on coursework recognized by local hiring managers, and moving laterally from network operations center analyst or desktop support technician roles is a well-established path upward.
