Sre Engineer Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sre engineer in Washington?
Becoming a sre engineer in Washington typically starts with a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, followed by hands-on experience in software development or systems administration. Washington has no state-issued license for this role. Employers in Seattle and Bellevue prioritize demonstrated proficiency with cloud platforms and reliability tooling, so building a portfolio of infrastructure projects and earning certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or the Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer credential significantly strengthens a candidacy.
How much do sre engineers make in Washington?
Sre engineers in Washington earn a median of about $166,540 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,810 for the lowest 10% to over $255,350 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sre engineers in Washington?
Employers hiring sre engineers in Washington right now include Microsoft, Okta, and Apple, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Washington's concentration of hyperscale cloud providers and large enterprise technology companies means openings appear across a wide range of team sizes, from foundational infrastructure squads to specialized reliability organizations.
Which Washington cities have the most sre engineer jobs?
Seattle, Redmond, and Bellevue are the Washington cities with the most sre engineer openings. Seattle dominates because it is home to the headquarters and major engineering campuses of Amazon and other large technology companies, while Bellevue and Redmond attract significant volume through Microsoft's presence and a dense cluster of cloud-focused startups and enterprise software firms in the Eastside corridor.
Are there remote sre engineer jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most engineering disciplines, since much of the work involves managing cloud infrastructure that can be administered from anywhere. About 50% of sre engineer openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting both the remote-compatible nature of the role and Washington employers' broad adoption of distributed team structures. On-call and incident-response responsibilities are the portions most commonly performed with some expectation of availability, but rarely require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a sre engineer in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a software engineering or systems administration role into reliability work, since Washington employers such as Amazon and Microsoft regularly fill associate SRE and production engineering roles with candidates from those backgrounds. Pursuing rotational programs or new-graduate university hire pipelines at large Seattle-area technology companies is a direct route. Building hands-on experience through personal infrastructure projects on cloud platforms, contributing to open-source reliability tooling, and earning an entry-level cloud certification gives candidates a concrete edge when applying.
Where can I find and apply to sre engineer jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to sre engineer jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location preferences, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
