Sre Engineer Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sre engineer in Massachusetts?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a sre engineer in Massachusetts. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline, though strong candidates also enter through bootcamps or self-taught paths paired with cloud certifications from AWS, Google, or Microsoft. Building a portfolio demonstrating production incident response, automation projects, and infrastructure tooling is the most direct way to qualify for roles across Massachusetts's dense technology corridor.
How much do sre engineers make in Massachusetts?
Sre engineers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $165,210 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $102,810 for the lowest 10% to over $213,970 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sre engineers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring sre engineers in Massachusetts right now include Akamai Technologies, Axon, and UKG, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of financial services firms, life sciences technology companies, and enterprise SaaS vendors around Boston and Route 128 means demand is sustained year-round across both startups and large organizations.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most sre engineer jobs?
Boston, Cambridge, and Lowell have the most sre engineer openings in Massachusetts. Boston drives the largest share through its density of fintech, biotech, and cloud-focused employers, while Cambridge and Waltham draw volume from major technology campuses and research-adjacent companies that rely heavily on reliable, scalable infrastructure teams.
Are there remote sre engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 81% of sre engineer openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on cloud consoles, monitoring dashboards, and on-call rotations that do not require physical presence. On-call incident response and production deployments are the parts most commonly handled fully remotely by Massachusetts-based teams.
How can I get hired as a sre engineer in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior DevOps, systems administrator, or cloud operations role at a Massachusetts technology company, then moving laterally once you have production exposure. Large employers in Boston's Seaport and Route 128 corridor regularly hire new graduates into infrastructure associate programs. Earning an AWS or Google Cloud associate certification before applying signals competency and meaningfully narrows the experience gap for candidates without a full engineering background.
Where can I find and apply to sre engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to sre engineer jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly.
