Most hiring managers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field, combined with several years of progressively senior devops work. Certifications from AWS, Google Cloud, or the Linux Foundation carry real weight with West Virginia employers in the government contracting, healthcare IT, and higher education sectors that dominate the state's market.
How much do staff devops engineers make in West Virginia?

Charleston leads because it is the state capital and headquarters for major healthcare systems and government contractors, while Morgantown benefits from West Virginia University's research computing operations and the technology firms that have grown around its campus.

How can I get hired as a staff devops engineer in West Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a systems administrator, junior cloud engineer, or IT operations role and building devops skills alongside that work.
