Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Clinical Analyst
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check that your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code maps to an approved STEM field on the ICE STEM Designated Degree Program List. Health informatics, biomedical engineering, and computer science codes qualify. A mismatch means your DSO can't authorize the extension.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask the recruiter or HR contact to confirm their E-Verify Company ID number before you sign anything. An employer not enrolled in E-Verify legally can't employ you on STEM OPT, and enrollment can't be retroactive after your start date.
Target health systems and payers over staffing agencies
Direct employers at hospitals, insurance payers, and pharmacy benefit managers file I-983 training plans themselves and can define concrete learning objectives tied to clinical analytics workflows. Staffing agencies placing you at a third-party site create a more complex triparty I-983 arrangement that many DSOs flag for additional review.
Search Migrate Mate to filter Clinical Analyst roles by E-Verify status
Migrate Mate surfaces Clinical Analyst postings from employers with verified E-Verify enrollment, so you're not manually screening each company. Filter by STEM OPT eligibility to focus your applications on roles your authorization actually covers.
Build your I-983 training plan around measurable analytics milestones
USCIS expects the I-983 to show how each job duty advances your STEM skills. Map your training goals to specific deliverables like EHR optimization projects, clinical data validation cycles, or regulatory reporting workflows. Vague descriptions increase the chance your DSO requests a revision before endorsing the form.
File your STEM OPT extension application 90 days before OPT expires
USCIS allows you to apply up to 90 days before your current OPT EAD expires. Submitting earlier gives you a cap-gap buffer if processing runs long, and ensures your I-983 is endorsed and on file with your DSO well before the deadline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Clinical Analyst role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Most Clinical Analyst positions qualify if your employer classifies the role under a STEM-aligned SOC code, such as operations research analyst, computer and information systems manager, or medical and health services manager, and your underlying degree falls on the ICE STEM Designated Degree Program List. Your DSO confirms eligibility by matching your degree's CIP code to the approved list before endorsing your I-983. If the role sits in a purely administrative unit with no data or systems component, it may not qualify, so review the job description carefully with your DSO.
What E-Verify requirement applies to my STEM OPT employer?
Your employer must be actively enrolled in E-Verify at the specific worksite where you'll work, not just at the corporate level. Enrollment has to be in place before your STEM OPT start date. You can ask your HR contact for the E-Verify Company ID number and verify enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search tool. If your employer operates across multiple locations, confirm that the exact office listed on your I-983 is enrolled.
How should I complete the I-983 training plan for a Clinical Analyst position?
The I-983 requires you and your employer to describe how each job duty develops practical STEM skills directly tied to your degree field. For a Clinical Analyst role, map duties like EHR configuration, clinical data quality analysis, or regulatory reporting to specific learning goals in informatics, data science, or biomedical systems. USCIS expects concrete milestones, not generic job descriptions. Your DSO must endorse the completed form before your STEM OPT extension can be approved, and the plan must be updated every six months or when your job duties change significantly.
What happens to my work authorization if I'm in the H-1B cap-gap period as a Clinical Analyst?
If your employer files an H-1B petition on your behalf before your OPT EAD expires and you're selected in the lottery, cap-gap rules automatically extend your OPT work authorization through September 30 of that year. You can continue working as a Clinical Analyst during this period without a new EAD. USCIS issues a cap-gap extension notice, but you don't receive a new card. Keep your original EAD, the I-797 receipt for your H-1B petition, and your most recent I-20 together as your employment authorization documentation.
Where can I find Clinical Analyst jobs where the employer is already set up for STEM OPT hiring?
Migrate Mate filters Clinical Analyst listings by employers enrolled in E-Verify and experienced with STEM OPT training plans, so you're not researching each company's compliance posture manually. Focusing on health systems, payers, and clinical data vendors that already have I-983 processes in place reduces onboarding friction and speeds up your actual start date.
