Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Data Center Manager
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check your degree's CIP code against DHS's STEM OPT designated degree list before targeting Data Center Manager roles. Computer science, electrical engineering, and information systems codes typically qualify, but management-track degrees vary.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask hiring managers directly whether their company is enrolled in E-Verify before you reach the offer stage. You can cross-check employer enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search tool to avoid wasting time on ineligible companies.
Build a targeted employer list using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Data Center Manager openings by employers with active STEM OPT hiring history. This cuts out guesswork and surfaces companies already familiar with the I-983 training plan process.
Align your I-983 training plan to operations outcomes
When drafting your I-983, map your learning objectives to measurable infrastructure outcomes like uptime targets or capacity planning milestones. Vague plans get rejected by DSOs. Specificity tied to the Data Center Manager role strengthens approval.
Target employers with existing infrastructure teams
Companies running their own on-premises or hybrid data centers are more likely to sponsor STEM OPT than pure-SaaS firms. Search DOL's OFLC Wage Search for LCA filings under infrastructure and network engineering job titles to gauge employer hiring patterns.

Find Data Center Manager JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Data Center Manager role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not just the job title. The role itself must connect to a STEM-designated field and your specific degree's CIP code must appear on the DHS STEM OPT list. Degrees in computer science, electrical engineering, or information systems typically qualify. Check your degree program's CIP code against the official DHS designated degree list before assuming eligibility.
What does the I-983 training plan need to include for a Data Center Manager position?
Your I-983 must describe how the Data Center Manager role provides practical training in your STEM field, with specific learning objectives tied to measurable outcomes like network performance, system reliability, or capacity planning. Generic descriptions get flagged by DSOs. Both you and your employer sign the form, and your DSO must approve it before USCIS processes your extension application.
How do I confirm my employer is enrolled in E-Verify before accepting a job offer?
You can verify enrollment directly through the E-Verify employer search tool on the E-Verify website. Ask the recruiter or HR contact to confirm enrollment status in writing before you accept the offer. STEM OPT regulations require your employer to be actively enrolled in E-Verify, and starting work at a non-enrolled employer puts your status at risk.
What happens to my STEM OPT authorization if my H-1B petition is filed during my extension period?
If your employer files an H-1B petition before your STEM OPT expires and you remain in a valid OPT period on April 1, the cap-gap rule automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 of that year. USCIS processes cap-gap extensions as part of the H-1B adjudication, so you don't file a separate application. Continue working without interruption while the petition is pending.
Where can I find Data Center Manager jobs at employers familiar with STEM OPT requirements?
Migrate Mate lists Data Center Manager openings filtered for employers with STEM OPT hiring experience, so you're not spending time explaining the I-983 process from scratch to every recruiter. Focusing on companies with prior STEM OPT hires shortens the onboarding conversation and reduces the risk of an employer backing out late in the process.
