Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as an Azure Cloud Engineer
Verify your CIP code before applying
Pull your degree's CIP code from your DSO and cross-reference it against STEM OPT's designated degree list. Computer science, computer engineering, and information technology codes all support Azure Cloud Engineer roles, but electrical engineering or applied math degrees may need DSO confirmation.
Filter job listings by E-Verify status
Before investing time in any application, confirm the employer is enrolled in E-Verify using the E-Verify employer search. Smaller cloud consultancies and regional IT firms frequently lack enrollment, which disqualifies them as STEM OPT employers regardless of how strong the role looks.
Benchmark your offer against prevailing wage data
Run the OFLC Wage Search for your target metro area before evaluating an offer. Your I-983 training plan must connect your Azure work to your STEM degree, and employers who underpay relative to prevailing wage often signal weak compliance infrastructure that creates problems at extension filing.
Draft your I-983 training plan before accepting
Azure Cloud Engineer roles should map specific learning objectives to your degree field, such as distributed systems, cloud architecture, or network security. Negotiate the training plan language with your hiring manager before your start date so your DSO can approve it without last-minute revisions.
Use Migrate Mate to target verified sponsoring employers
Search Azure Cloud Engineer roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with documented E-Verify enrollment and STEM OPT hiring history. This cuts out the manual screening step and focuses your applications on companies already equipped to file your extension paperwork.
Align your start date to protect cap-gap coverage
If your employer files an H-1B petition on your behalf before your OPT expires, cap-gap rules extend your work authorization automatically through September 30. Confirm with your DSO that your employment end date leaves enough runway for timely H-1B registration.

Find Azure Cloud Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does an Azure Cloud Engineer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your underlying degree is in a STEM-designated field such as computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or information systems, and the Azure Cloud Engineer role connects meaningfully to that field. Your DSO confirms eligibility by matching your degree's CIP code to the official STEM OPT designated degree list maintained by the Department of Homeland Security. The role itself does not determine eligibility; your degree does.
Does my employer need to be on E-Verify to hire me as a STEM OPT student?
Yes. E-Verify enrollment is a hard requirement for STEM OPT employers, not a preference. If your employer isn't enrolled before your extension start date, your STEM OPT authorization is invalid even if USCIS has already approved the extension. You can confirm enrollment through the E-Verify employer search tool before accepting any offer. Browse Azure Cloud Engineer roles at employers already verified for STEM OPT compliance on Migrate Mate.
What should the I-983 training plan include for an Azure Cloud Engineer?
Your I-983 must describe a structured, degree-related learning experience, not just a list of daily tasks. For Azure Cloud Engineer roles, that means identifying specific technical competencies you'll develop, such as cloud infrastructure design, DevOps pipelines, identity and access management, or distributed systems, and connecting each to your STEM degree curriculum. Your employer's designated representative signs the plan, and your DSO must approve it before your extension period begins.
What happens to my STEM OPT if my employer loses E-Verify enrollment after I start?
If your employer terminates or loses E-Verify enrollment during your STEM OPT period, your work authorization is affected. USCIS requires that employers maintain enrollment for the full duration of your extension. You must report a material change in employer compliance status to your DSO within five business days. In practice, this usually means finding a new E-Verify-enrolled employer or your authorization lapses.
Can cap-gap protect my Azure Cloud Engineer job if my H-1B is selected in the lottery?
Yes, if your employer files a timely H-1B petition before your OPT EAD expires and you're selected in the H-1B lottery, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 of that year, and further through October 1 if your petition is still pending. You can continue working in your Azure Cloud Engineer role during this period without interruption, provided your employer filed before your OPT end date.
