Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as an Applications Analyst
Confirm your CIP code before applying
Check that your degree's CIP code maps to a STEM-designated field recognized by ICE. Information systems, computer science, and engineering technology codes typically qualify, but the exact code on your transcript is what your DSO uses to authorize the extension.
Search only E-Verify enrolled employers
Filter your job search to companies registered with E-Verify before you apply. You can verify employer enrollment directly through the E-Verify employer search tool. Applying to non-enrolled employers wastes time since they cannot legally support your STEM OPT extension.
Align your I-983 training goals to the role
Draft your I-983 training plan goals around the specific technical skills in the Applications Analyst job description before your offer letter is signed. Employers unfamiliar with STEM OPT paperwork respond better when you arrive with a ready framework tied to their systems environment.
Use Migrate Mate to target verified sponsors
Search Applications Analyst roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with confirmed STEM OPT hiring history. Targeting companies already familiar with the E-Verify requirement and I-983 process cuts through employers who will stall or withdraw offers mid-process.
Time your application around your OPT end date
Submit your STEM OPT extension application to USCIS no later than 90 days before your initial OPT expires. Your cap-gap protection only activates if your H-1B petition is filed and your OPT is still valid, so an early application gives you buffer for USCIS processing delays.
Clarify the prevailing wage before negotiating
Look up the wage level for Applications Analyst roles in your target metro using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation. STEM OPT does not set a wage floor, but knowing the DOL prevailing wage protects you if the employer later files an LCA for H-1B sponsorship.

Find Applications Analyst JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does an Applications Analyst role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your degree is in a STEM-designated field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering. The qualifying factor is your degree's CIP code, not the job title itself. Your DSO confirms eligibility when you apply for the extension. The O*NET occupation profile for Applications Analyst supports alignment with STEM degree programs in information technology and systems analysis.
What E-Verify requirement applies to my STEM OPT employer?
Your employer must be actively enrolled in E-Verify before your STEM OPT extension begins. This is a federal requirement enforced by ICE, not something the employer can complete after hiring you. Verify enrollment through the E-Verify employer search before accepting an offer. Employers who are not enrolled cannot legally employ you on a STEM OPT extension, regardless of their willingness to sponsor.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for an Applications Analyst position?
The I-983 must describe the specific skills you will develop, how the training relates to your STEM degree, and how the employer will supervise and evaluate your progress. For an Applications Analyst role, this typically includes systems configuration, requirements analysis, and software implementation workflows. Both you and your employer sign the form, and your DSO must receive it before your extension is authorized by USCIS.
How does cap-gap protection work if I receive an H-1B petition while on STEM OPT?
If your employer files a timely H-1B petition on your behalf before your STEM OPT expires, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year. You can continue working as an Applications Analyst during this period without interruption. USCIS confirms cap-gap status on your I-20, which your DSO updates after the petition receipt notice is issued.
Where can I find Applications Analyst jobs where employers already understand STEM OPT?
Migrate Mate lists Applications Analyst roles filtered for employers with STEM OPT and E-Verify hiring experience. Targeting employers who have navigated the I-983 process before reduces the risk of an offer being rescinded when HR encounters the training plan requirement for the first time. You can search by role and filter by work authorization type directly on Migrate Mate.
