Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Full Stack Developer
Verify your degree's CIP code eligibility
Cross-check your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code against the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List before applying. Computer science, software engineering, and information systems degrees typically qualify, but applied computing or interdisciplinary tech degrees sometimes don't.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask your recruiter to share the company's E-Verify Company ID or check enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search tool. A verbal promise isn't enough, and discovering non-enrollment after you've signed delays your STEM OPT extension filing.
Target employers with active LCA filings for developers
Search DOL OFLC disclosure data filtered to Software Developer or Full Stack Engineer job titles to identify companies with consistent STEM hiring patterns. These employers already understand prevailing wage obligations and OPT work authorization timelines.
Build your I-983 training plan before your start date
Draft the Form I-983 learning objectives around real deliverables from your job description, not generic skills. Full Stack Developer roles should map frontend and backend responsibilities to specific STEM knowledge areas your DSO will need to certify.
Use Migrate Mate to find STEM OPT verified employers
Search Full Stack Developer roles on Migrate Mate to filter for employers already enrolled in E-Verify and with documented sponsorship history. You can confirm employer eligibility and apply without separately cross-referencing government databases.

Find Full Stack Developer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Full Stack Developer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, Full Stack Developer positions qualify when your employer's job description requires applying STEM knowledge, and your degree falls under an eligible CIP code such as computer science, software engineering, or information systems. You can confirm your degree's eligibility against the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List through USCIS. The role itself must involve direct application of your STEM training, not just incidental use of technical tools.
What E-Verify requirement applies to my STEM OPT employer?
Your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify before you can start working on a STEM OPT extension. This is a federal requirement, not a company policy choice. You can verify enrollment through E-Verify's public employer search before you accept an offer. If your employer is not enrolled, they cannot legally employ you on STEM OPT, even if they otherwise want to sponsor your work authorization. Migrate Mate filters for E-Verify enrolled employers in Full Stack Developer search results.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for a Full Stack Developer?
The I-983 requires you and your employer to document specific learning objectives tied to your STEM degree, not just your job duties. For Full Stack Developer roles, this means mapping frontend and backend development responsibilities to knowledge areas from your coursework, such as algorithms, systems architecture, or software engineering principles. Your employer must also describe how they'll supervise and evaluate your progress. Your DSO reviews and signs the plan before you submit your STEM OPT application.
What happens to my STEM OPT if my Full Stack Developer employer loses E-Verify enrollment?
If your employer's E-Verify enrollment lapses or is terminated after your STEM OPT begins, your authorization to continue working for that employer is jeopardized. USCIS requires E-Verify enrollment to remain active throughout your entire STEM OPT period. You should notify your DSO immediately if you become aware of a change in your employer's enrollment status. You may need to find a new qualifying employer and file for a change of employer through your DSO.
How does cap-gap protect me if I'm on STEM OPT and my H-1B is selected?
Cap-gap automatically extends your STEM OPT work authorization from April 1 through September 30 of the year your H-1B petition is filed, if your OPT would otherwise expire during that window. USCIS issues a cap-gap extension when your employer files a timely H-1B petition on your behalf. Your I-20 must be updated by your DSO to reflect the cap-gap extension period. You can continue working as a Full Stack Developer under the same employer during this window without interruption.
