Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as an Information Systems Analyst
Verify your CIP code matches STEM
Check your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code against the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List before applying. Information systems and computer science degrees typically qualify, but business-focused IS degrees from non-STEM programs sometimes don't.
Confirm employers are E-Verify enrolled
Before you apply, ask recruiters whether the company is enrolled in E-Verify. STEM OPT requires it by law, and not every employer knows this upfront. E-Verify enrollment status is searchable through the E-Verify employer search tool.
Benchmark your offer against prevailing wage
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for Information Systems Analyst roles in your target city before accepting an offer. Your I-983 training plan must reflect compensation that meets federal standards for your occupation and location.
Build your I-983 around systems deliverables
Your training plan needs specific, measurable learning objectives tied to your STEM degree. For this role, frame goals around systems analysis methodologies, data architecture projects, or ERP implementation work rather than generic IT tasks your DSO will flag.
Target employers with active H-1B filing history
Employers who have sponsored H-1B petitions for similar roles are already structured to sponsor your STEM OPT and are more likely to continue sponsorship long-term. Use Migrate Mate to filter Information Systems Analyst positions by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history.

Find Information Systems Analyst JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does my degree qualify me for a STEM OPT extension as an Information Systems Analyst?
Your degree must appear on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List to qualify. Degrees in computer and information systems, management information systems, and computer science typically qualify. Business administration or general management IS degrees may not. Cross-reference your transcript's CIP code with the DHS list and confirm eligibility with your DSO before applying for the extension.
Does my employer need to be enrolled in E-Verify for me to work as an Information Systems Analyst on STEM OPT?
Yes. E-Verify enrollment is a federal requirement for any employer hiring STEM OPT students, regardless of company size or industry. You cannot begin STEM OPT employment until your employer is enrolled and has signed your I-983 training plan. Ask the recruiter or HR contact to confirm enrollment before you accept an offer.
What goes into an I-983 training plan for an Information Systems Analyst role?
Your I-983 must include specific, measurable learning objectives directly tied to your STEM degree. For this role, that means listing goals like conducting systems requirements analysis, designing data workflows, or implementing enterprise software solutions. Vague objectives like 'gaining IT experience' are routinely flagged by DSOs. Your employer's supervisor must co-sign the plan and attest the training is genuine.
How does cap-gap protection apply if my employer files an H-1B petition while I'm working as an Information Systems Analyst on STEM OPT?
If your employer files a timely H-1B petition on your behalf before your STEM OPT EAD expires, cap-gap protection automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year. You can continue working as an Information Systems Analyst without interruption during this period. USCIS confirms cap-gap eligibility through the receipt notice on the I-129 petition.
Where can I find Information Systems Analyst jobs with employers already set up for STEM OPT?
Use Migrate Mate to search Information Systems Analyst positions filtered by employers with verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history. These employers have already navigated the federal sponsorship process for similar roles, which makes E-Verify enrollment and I-983 coordination significantly smoother than starting the conversation from scratch with an unfamiliar HR team.
