Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a SAP Developer
Verify your CIP code matches SAP roles
Check your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code against the STEM OPT eligible fields list before applying. Degrees in computer science, management information systems, or industrial engineering typically qualify, but the exact CIP code on your transcript determines eligibility.
Filter job postings by E-Verify status
Ask recruiters directly whether the company is enrolled in E-Verify before advancing to interviews. STEM OPT authorization is void if your employer isn't enrolled, so confirming this early saves you from late-stage offers you can't legally accept.
Target SAP consulting firms with large STEM OPT pipelines
Mid-size SAP implementation and consulting firms hire STEM OPT students regularly because project-based work aligns with the I-983 training plan structure. Use Migrate Mate to find SAP Developer openings filtered for employers with active STEM OPT hiring history.
Negotiate your start date around DSO processing time
Your DSO needs time to issue the STEM OPT I-20 and file Form I-765 before your initial OPT expires. Build at least 90 days of lead time into offer negotiations so your authorization is active on day one.
Prepare your I-983 training plan before the offer stage
SAP Developer roles need a detailed I-983 that maps specific SAP modules, project deliverables, and supervision structure to your STEM degree learning objectives. Draft a role-specific template in advance so employers aren't navigating the form for the first time after making an offer.
Benchmark your offer against DOL prevailing wage data
STEM OPT doesn't require DOL prevailing wage compliance the way H-1B does, but offers below market raise red flags during I-983 review. Run your expected salary against the OFLC Wage Search for SAP Developer roles in your target metro to confirm your offer reflects genuine employment.

Find SAP Developer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does my STEM degree qualify me for the STEM OPT extension as an SAP Developer?
Your degree must appear on USCIS's STEM OPT designated degree list, which is organized by CIP code. Degrees in computer science, management information systems, computer engineering, or industrial engineering typically qualify for SAP Developer roles. The CIP code printed on your official transcript is what your DSO uses to verify eligibility, not the degree title alone.
Does my SAP Developer employer need to be enrolled in E-Verify?
Yes. E-Verify enrollment is a hard requirement for STEM OPT, not a preference. Your employer must be actively enrolled before your extension is approved. You can confirm enrollment by asking your recruiter or HR contact directly and requesting the company's E-Verify employer ID. USCIS will not approve a STEM OPT extension for an employer that isn't enrolled.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for an SAP Developer role?
The I-983 must describe how the SAP Developer position directly relates to your STEM degree, the specific technical skills and modules you'll develop, the supervision structure, and how progress will be evaluated. Generic job descriptions don't satisfy the requirement. You'll need to identify specific SAP modules, implementation methodologies, and learning objectives tied to your degree field before your employer signs.
How does cap-gap protection work if my employer files an H-1B for me during STEM OPT?
If your employer files a timely H-1B petition before your STEM OPT expires and you're selected in the lottery, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 of that year. Your STEM OPT EAD remains valid during this bridge period. You don't need a new EAD card, but your employer should confirm with their immigration counsel that the cap-gap extension is properly documented in their records.
Where can I find SAP Developer jobs that accept STEM OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate lists SAP Developer openings filtered for employers with verified STEM OPT hiring history and E-Verify enrollment. Searching by role and authorization type on Migrate Mate narrows results to companies already familiar with the I-983 process, which significantly reduces the back-and-forth with HR about whether they can hire you.
