Mid Level Structural Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level structural engineer job?
Position your existing experience around ownership, not just contribution. Highlight projects where you led analysis, produced stamped drawings, or coordinated directly with clients or contractors. Tailor your resume to show depth in a structural system or material type, and be ready to discuss how you handled design decisions when senior engineers were not in the room. Certifications like a PE license signal readiness for this tier.
Which companies hire mid level structural engineers?
Companies hiring mid level structural engineers right now include WSP, Kiewit, and HDR, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of large engineering and consulting firms, regional AEC practices, and infrastructure-focused contractors who need engineers capable of running project deliverables with limited supervision.
Are there remote mid level structural engineer jobs?
Yes, though most structural roles still require some site presence or office coordination. About 16% of mid level structural engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated in roles focused on design, analysis, and documentation rather than field inspection or construction administration. Searching by work setting on Migrate Mate lets you filter to those openings directly.
How do I move up to a mid level structural engineer role?
The move from entry level to mid level is built on accumulated ownership, not just time served. Engineers who reach this tier typically have taken full responsibility for at least one project phase, developed proficiency in a structural system such as steel, concrete, or timber, and demonstrated they can manage deliverables and client communication without step-by-step direction. Pursuing your PE license and documenting measurable project outcomes accelerates that progression significantly.
Which industries hire the most mid level structural engineers?
Mid Level structural engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive demand because they involve complex, regulated built environments where experienced engineers who can own analysis and design deliverables are needed at the project level, not just in a support capacity.
