Structural Project Engineer Jobs in Austin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a structural project engineer job in Austin?
Focus your search on Austin's active commercial construction and civil infrastructure sectors, where demand for structural project engineers is strongest. Firms working on large mixed-use projects in Mueller, downtown high-rises, and the ongoing expansion of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport actively hire at the project engineer level. Candidates with experience in steel or concrete design software and familiarity with Texas building codes stand out in this market.
Which companies hire structural project engineers in Austin?
Employers hiring structural project engineers in Austin right now include Burns & McDonnell, ANS, and DCI Engineers, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Austin's hiring pool includes a mix of national engineering and construction firms with local offices, regional structural consultancies, and large general contractors managing the city's rapid commercial and infrastructure build-out.
Are there remote structural project engineer jobs in Austin?
Yes, though with limits: structural project engineering involves site coordination and construction-phase reviews that are difficult to do fully remote. About 20% of structural project engineer openings tied to Austin are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most flexibility found in the design and calculations phase rather than active construction oversight.
How can I get a structural project engineer job in Austin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Austin is joining a mid-size structural consultancy or a general contractor's engineering team as a junior or associate engineer, where you work alongside senior PEs on live projects. Austin's sustained construction activity means firms frequently bring on early-career engineers for documentation, drafting, and field observation support. A strong internship at an Austin-area firm, combined with EIT certification, is the clearest way to get a first offer locally.
Which industries hire the most structural project engineers in Austin?
Most structural project engineer openings in Austin sit in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Manufacturing, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Austin's sustained population growth, active commercial development pipeline, and ongoing public infrastructure investment are the primary forces keeping demand for structural engineering talent high across those sectors.
