Surgical Dental Assistant Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a surgical dental assistant in Minnesota?
Minnesota requires dental assistants who perform expanded functions to register with the Minnesota Board of Dentistry, which oversees dental assistant credentials in the state. Most employers expect candidates to hold at least a certificate or associate degree in dental assisting from a Board-approved program. Completing the DANB Certified Dental Assistant exam strengthens your candidacy for surgical roles. Hands-on clinical training in oral surgery or a periodontal setting is the most direct path to surgical positions.
Which companies hire surgical dental assistants in Minnesota?
Minnesota surgical dental assistant roles are posted by Heartland Dental, Aspen Dental, and Apple Tree Dental and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Minnesota's large integrated health systems and specialty dental group practices drive consistent year-round demand across the state.
Which Minnesota cities have the most surgical dental assistant jobs?
Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and Rochester have the most surgical dental assistant openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities anchor the majority of postings due to the concentration of oral surgery specialty practices, large health systems, and academic dental programs, while Rochester's density of medical and dental specialists tied to major clinic systems makes it a secondary hub for surgical assistant roles.
Are there remote surgical dental assistant jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, but they're rare. Surgical dental assisting is a hands-on chairside role that requires physical presence in a clinical setting, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 2% of surgical dental assistant openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to cover administrative or care coordination functions rather than clinical duties.
How can I get hired as a surgical dental assistant in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to general dental assistant roles at large Minnesota group practices or health systems and requesting rotation through their oral surgery or periodontal departments. HealthPartners and Fairview Health Services both recruit new dental assistants through associate-level hiring tracks that expose candidates to surgical settings. Completing a Minnesota Board of Dentistry-approved dental assisting program and earning your DANB Coronal Polishing or Radiation Health and Safety certificate gives your application a concrete edge even without direct surgical experience.
Where can I find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current Minnesota openings in one place. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
