Emory University Hospital would like to invite you to join our Complex Medicine Unit. We offer an exciting opportunity to work with a high acuity and diverse patient population that is comprised of, but not limited to, acute/chronic renal failure, endocrine dysfunction, pulmonary disease, infectious disease, gastrointestinal and liver disease, dermatology disorders, congestive heart failure, multi-system failure, malnutrition, geriatric patient disorders, and conditions requiring radioactive treatments. A unique, yet limited aspect of our unit is our contractual agreement with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support the care of our patients enrolled in clinical trials. Nurse ratio 4 to 1.

DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: The RN Clinician Educator is an experienced registered nurse who serves as a unit-based education resource, supporting the professional development and clinical competency of clinical staff under the guidance of the Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner. This role is designed as a formal development opportunity for clinically experienced nurses seeking to grow their expertise in staff education and NPD practice. The RN Clinician Educator applies foundational knowledge of adult learning principles and evidence-based practice to assist with onboarding, competency management, education delivery, and quality improvement activities. This role functions within the career pathway of RN Clinician Educator to NPD Practitioner to NPD Specialist.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
Orientation and Onboarding:
- Assists with the orientation and onboarding of newly hired clinical staff and new graduate nurses at the unit level
- Supports coordination, delivery and documentation of unit-specific onboarding activities in collaboration with the NPD Practitioner
- Serves as a resource and coach to preceptors and mentors, supporting effective onboarding experiences for new staff
- Participates in transition-to-practice programs, providing guidance and support to new graduate nurses throughout their onboarding experience
- May serve as a preceptor for newly hired clinical staff
Competency Management:
- Assists with competency validation and tracking for clinical staff, ensuring compliance with required timelines
- Participates in identifying learning needs and performance gaps in collaboration with unit leadership
- Supports the development and implementation of competency assessment tools under the direction of the NPD Practitioner
- Assists in coordinating required annual competency activities and mandatory training completion for unit staff
Education and Training:
- Assists in the delivery of continuing education, just-in-time training, and in-service programs using evidence-based methods
- Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of unit-based education programs under NPD Practitioner guidance
- Utilizes multiple delivery platforms including in-person instruction, e-learning, and simulation-based learning
- Maintains accurate staff education records within the learning management system (LMS)
- Applies adult learning principles when designing and facilitating educational activities for clinical staff
Clinical Practice and Leadership:
- Provides direct patient care, maintaining clinical competency and serving as a role model for evidence-based, patient-centered nursing practice
- Applies current clinical expertise to inform and contextualize educational activities, ensuring relevance to bedside practice
- Demonstrates professional nursing practice consistent with Emory Healthcare standards, policies, and regulatory requirements during all patient care activities
- Serves as a visible clinical leader, modeling professional behavior, effective communication, and commitment to quality and safety
Role Development:
- Serves as a mentor and resource for the career ladder program, encouraging professional development and career advancement
- Pursues professional growth through continuing education and specialty certification
- Demonstrates growing application of the ANPD Practice Model framework under the mentorship of the NPD Practitioner
- Promotes specialty certification within unit
Collaborative Partnerships:
- Collaborates with unit leadership, charge nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and support educational activities
- Acts as a liaison between bedside staff and the NPD Practitioner, communicating identified learning needs and educational gaps
- Participates in unit-based or system shared governance councils, education committees, or NPD-related initiatives as assigned
- Adapts communication and teaching approaches to meet the diverse learning needs of clinical staff
Quality Improvement and Evidence-Based Practice:
- Promotes evidence-based practice through staff education and supports translation of current evidence into bedside care
- Supports unit and system-level quality improvement initiatives through targeted education interventions
- Participates in data collection and reporting
- Aligns educational activities with Emory Healthcare strategic priorities, Magnet standards, and applicable regulatory requirements
Additional Duties as Assigned.
Travel: Less than 10% of the time may be required between clinical sites.
Work Type: On-site; primarily unit-based with protected time designated for education-related responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum required:
- Education - Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Experience - 2 years of recent clinical nursing experience.
- Licensure - A valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
- Certification -
- BLS certification
- Additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty.
- If completing virtual care activities that may include multi-state practice, an active compact/multistate license (eNLC) is required within 60 days of hire. Employees in role prior to 11/09/2025 will have until their next renewal date to achieve compact status.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education - MSN degree in Nursing
- Experience - Prior experience in precepting, staff mentorship, education, or unit-based leadership.
- Certification - ACLS and/or PALS if applicable; specialty certification recommended.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (required):
- Foundational knowledge of adult learning principles and their application in clinical education settings
- Strong communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills with ability to engage diverse learners
- Ability to function collaboratively within a team and under the mentorship of the NPD Practitioner
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic familiarity with LMS platforms and simulation tools
- Commitment to personal professional development and progression within the NPD career pathway
- Awareness of ANPD Scope and Standards of Practice with willingness to develop applied proficiency
Physical Requirements: Medium (Max 25 lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing). Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste, Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, Communicable diseases, Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators; environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
