Entry Level Systems Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level systems engineer job?
Start by building hands-on experience through internships, senior capstone projects, or home lab work that demonstrates systems thinking. Employers hiring at this level look for familiarity with networking fundamentals, operating systems, and scripting in at least one language. A well-documented GitHub portfolio or a homelab writeup can set a new grad apart when formal experience is limited. Applying to roles that explicitly list zero to two years as acceptable is the most direct path.
Which companies hire entry level systems engineers?
Companies hiring entry level systems engineers right now include Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and BAE Systems USA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Both large enterprises with structured rotational programs and mid-size technology, defense, and managed services firms regularly post entry level systems engineer openings.
Are there remote entry level systems engineer jobs?
Yes, though on-site and hybrid roles make up the majority at this level. About 17% of entry level systems engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which gives candidates outside major tech hubs real options. Filtering by work setting on Migrate Mate lets you see only the openings that match your location preference.
Are these new grad systems engineer jobs?
Yes, the listings on this page include new grad, recent graduate, and junior systems engineer roles. A posting qualifies as new grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, counts internships or co-ops toward the requirement, or accepts a strong portfolio in place of full-time history. Look for phrases like "entry level," "new grad," or "junior" in the job description to confirm a role is open to candidates just starting out.
Which industries hire the most entry level systems engineers?
Entry Level systems engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Manufacturing, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they maintain large infrastructure footprints and rely on a steady pipeline of early-career engineers to support operations, refresh systems, and grow internal talent.
