DESCRIPTION
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, designing and scaling systems that protect the world's largest cloud infrastructure, and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Within AWS Infrastructure Services, the AWS Infrastructure Security – Security Products & Solutions (SPS) team is a global engineering organization responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of physical security products and solutions deployed across all AWS data centers worldwide. Our portfolio spans the full range of physical security technologies deployed across AWS data centers, including video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, media destruction, and more.
We own everything from initial design and engineering through deployment, operational enablement, and eventual decommissioning. Our team develops the standards, SOPs, automation, runbooks, and training that enable operations teams in the field to maintain and scale these systems reliably. We work cross-functionally across AWS organizations to deliver secure, cost-effective, and resilient solutions that meet the evolving needs of the world's largest cloud infrastructure.
We are seeking a Data Center Security Systems Engineer to join our team and contribute across all phases of the security product lifecycle. In this role, you will design, engineer, and integrate complex security systems involving multiple internal and external stakeholders. You will develop technical documentation, define equipment specifications, and create the operational frameworks that enable global deployment and support. You will drive standardization, identify opportunities for innovation, and help shape the next generation of physical security infrastructure at AWS scale.
Our products and solutions support all AWS regions globally. Travel will be necessary but should not exceed 25%, including occasional international travel to support cross-regional initiatives and deployments.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and engineer physical security systems for AWS data centers, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and related technologies
- Develop technical specifications, product requirements, and build plans for security system implementations
- Evaluate and recommend solutions that balance security effectiveness, cost, scalability, and operational complexity
- Drive complex system integration projects across internal teams and external partners
- Collaborate cross-functionally across AWS organizations to integrate security requirements into designs and standards
- Contribute to the standardization of security system designs across the global data center portfolio
- Develop automation solutions that improve the efficiency and reliability of security system deployment, configuration, and management
- Create technical documentation, SOPs, runbooks, and training materials that enable field operations teams to support products throughout the full lifecycle
- Ensure compliance with internal security standards, policies, and organizational requirements
- Domestic and international travel approximately 25% of the time
A day in the life
You collaborate with your team and cross-functional partners to deliver security products and solutions across the full lifecycle. On any given day, you might be working with vendors to evaluate emerging security technologies, creating automation to streamline system configurations at scale, or troubleshooting a complex integration challenge with a partner team. You identify and communicate technical issues early, propose solutions, and work with internal partners to align on the best path forward. You seek to understand the broader business context behind the security infrastructure you build, ensuring your solutions meet both immediate needs and long-term goals. You actively seek feedback, iterate to raise the bar, and take ownership of your contributions to the team's collective knowledge and customer outcomes.
About the team
The team is a small but highly capable workforce which supports end to end lifecycle of security devices. This role is expected to own developed solutions from problem statement, to development of business requirements, through alpha and beta testing to enterprise wide deployment. This role will also create support documentation to be used by deployment teams for troubleshooting.
