Tax Attorney Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax attorney in Kansas?
To practice as a tax attorney in Kansas, you must earn a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school, pass the Kansas Bar Examination, and be admitted by the Kansas Board of Law Examiners. Many candidates then pursue specialized experience through clerkships, accounting firms, or government roles at the Kansas Department of Revenue. An LLM in Taxation strengthens candidacy for corporate and specialized tax positions in the state.
How much do tax attorneys make in Kansas?
Tax attorneys in Kansas earn a median of about $106,650 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,300 for the lowest 10% to over $213,360 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax attorneys in Kansas?
Kansas tax attorney roles are posted by Intuit, Koch, and AdamsBrown and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas's mix of energy companies, agricultural enterprises, regional banks, and state government agencies makes it a varied market for tax law specialization.
Which Kansas cities have the most tax attorney jobs?
Topeka, Overland Park, and Wichita have the most tax attorney openings in Kansas. Wichita drives volume as the state's largest commercial hub, anchored by aviation, manufacturing, and financial services employers, while Topeka's concentration of state agencies and regulatory bodies creates consistent government-side demand, and Kansas City attracts corporate and multistate tax work from employers on both sides of the state line.
Are there remote tax attorney jobs in Kansas?
Yes, and more than most legal specialties, since tax analysis and advisory work is largely document-driven and conducted over calls and digital platforms. About 20% of tax attorney openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the role. Research, compliance review, and client counseling are the functions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a tax attorney in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a judicial clerkship or a staff attorney role at the Kansas Department of Revenue or the Kansas Attorney General's Office, both of which regularly bring on new lawyers for tax-adjacent work. Large regional employers such as INTRUST Bank and Evergy occasionally hire associate-level counsel and offer mentored caseloads. Candidates without experience gain an edge by holding an active Kansas bar license, completing tax clinic work during law school, or earning a CPA alongside their JD.
Where can I find and apply to tax attorney jobs in Kansas?
You can find and apply to tax attorney jobs in Kansas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Kansas openings from employers across Wichita, Topeka, Kansas City, and the broader state. Search the listings, find the roles that match your background and practice area, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
