Tax Consultant Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax consultant in Kentucky?
The standard path in Kentucky is to earn a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, then pursue CPA licensure through the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination and meeting the board's education and experience requirements. Enrolled Agent status through the IRS is a recognized alternative for tax-focused practitioners who do not pursue the CPA route, and many Kentucky firms hire candidates who are actively working toward either credential.
How much do tax consultants make in Kentucky?
Tax consultants in Kentucky earn a median of about $36,620 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $21,750 for the lowest 10% to over $80,690 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax consultants in Kentucky?
Kentucky tax consultant roles are posted by Infineon Technologies, KPMG, and Dean Dorton and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kentucky's mix of regional accounting firms, large corporate in-house tax departments, and financial services employers in the Louisville and Northern Kentucky markets keeps a steady flow of openings across seniority levels.
Which Kentucky cities have the most tax consultant jobs?
Louisville, Lexington, and Fort Wright account for the largest share of tax consultant openings in Kentucky. Louisville anchors the market as the state's main corporate and financial services hub, Lexington draws demand from its university-linked economy and professional services sector, and the Northern Kentucky cities benefit from their proximity to major Cincinnati-area employers who post roles accessible to Kentucky-based candidates.
Are there remote tax consultant jobs in Kentucky?
Yes, and more than most fields, because tax consulting work is largely desk-based and document-driven. About 47% of tax consultant openings tied to Kentucky are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the profession's relatively high compatibility with distributed work. Tax return preparation, research, and advisory roles are the most likely to offer full or partial remote arrangements, while client-facing and audit-support positions tend to require more in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a tax consultant in Kentucky with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a staff tax associate role at one of Kentucky's regional CPA firms, where structured seasonal training and rotational exposure replace prior experience as the qualifying factor. Louisville firms such as Mountjoy Chilton Medley and larger national firms with Kentucky offices run new-graduate hiring cycles each fall. Lateral entry from bookkeeping, payroll, or accounts-payable roles is common, and holding or actively pursuing CPA exam eligibility through the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy gives candidates a clear edge even before they pass.
Where can I find and apply to tax consultant jobs in Kentucky?
You can find and apply to tax consultant jobs in Kentucky on Migrate Mate, which lists current Kentucky openings in one place. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
