Tax Consultant Jobs in St. Louis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a tax consultant job in St. Louis?
Focus your search on Clayton, where the highest density of regional accounting firms, wealth management offices, and corporate tax departments operate. St. Louis's mix of Fortune 500 headquarters, large healthcare networks, and private equity-backed companies creates consistent demand across compliance, federal, and state tax work. Candidates with Big Four experience or CPA credentials move fastest, but regional firms downtown and in Chesterfield also hire actively at the senior associate level.
Which companies hire tax consultants in St. Louis?
Companies currently hiring tax consultants in St. Louis include KPMG, RubinBrown, and PwC, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. St. Louis draws a mix of national public accounting firms with local offices, regional advisory boutiques, and large in-house tax teams at manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare companies headquartered in the metro area.
Are there remote tax consultant jobs in St. Louis?
Yes, though availability depends on the role: analytical and compliance-focused tax work is more remote-friendly than roles requiring client-facing meetings or local regulatory filings. About 48% of tax consultant openings tied to St. Louis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the highest share coming from larger firms and corporate in-house teams. Advisory and research-heavy positions tend to offer the most flexibility in the St. Louis market.
How can I get a tax consultant job in St. Louis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in St. Louis is a staff tax associate role at a regional accounting firm, particularly those in Clayton or the Chesterfield Valley corridor that recruit from Saint Louis University, Washington University, and Maryville University. Internships at local mid-market firms often convert to full-time offers, and entry-level roles in tax compliance at large St. Louis-based corporations provide a strong foundation. A CPA track and familiarity with Missouri state tax codes give early-career candidates a concrete edge over generalist applicants.
Which industries hire the most tax consultants in St. Louis?
St. Louis tax consultant roles concentrate in Accounting & Auditing, Consulting & Professional Services, and Food & Beverage, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. St. Louis's industrial base, anchored by healthcare systems, financial services firms, and a strong manufacturing and logistics sector, sustains consistent in-house and advisory tax demand that insulates the local market from broader economic swings.
