Tax Intern Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax intern in Alabama?
Most Alabama tax intern roles require active enrollment in an accredited accounting program, with strong preference for candidates pursuing CPA licensure through the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy. The Board requires completion of credit hours in accounting and business before sitting for the Uniform CPA Exam. Firms typically recruit interns from Alabama universities including the University of Alabama, Auburn University, and UAB, so connecting with those campus recruiting programs is one of the most direct paths in.
Which companies hire tax interns in Alabama?
Alabama tax intern roles are posted by Frazier & Deeter, KPMG, and Jobot and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Birmingham's concentration of regional accounting firms, financial services companies, and large corporate headquarters makes it the most active recruiting market for tax interns in the state.
Which Alabama cities have the most tax intern jobs?
Birmingham, Huntsville, and Montgomery have the most tax intern openings in Alabama. Birmingham leads because it is home to the state's largest concentration of public accounting firms, corporate tax departments, and financial institutions, while Huntsville's defense and technology sector generates demand for tax and finance interns, and Mobile's manufacturing and port-related industries support additional corporate accounting roles.
Are there remote tax intern jobs in Alabama?
Yes, and they are more common than in many fields since tax work is largely document-based and can be performed off-site. About 53% of tax intern openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader flexibility in accounting. Federal and state individual income tax preparation and research tasks are the parts of the role most commonly performed remotely, while client-facing or audit-support work tends to remain in-office.
How can I get hired as a tax intern in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured internship programs at Birmingham-area public accounting firms, many of which explicitly recruit students with no prior professional experience. Large firms with Alabama offices run formal recruiting cycles through university accounting programs at the University of Alabama, Auburn, and UAB. Completing relevant coursework in federal taxation and obtaining a PTIN registration early signals seriousness to hiring managers. Entry-level bookkeeping or accounts payable roles at Alabama businesses also serve as common lateral moves into tax intern positions.
Where can I find and apply to tax intern jobs in Alabama?
You can find and apply to tax intern jobs in Alabama on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alabama openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to each employer through the listing. No account is required to search or apply.
