Tips for Your Finance Intern Job Search
Tailor your resume to each posting
Finance intern postings vary by function. A role in equity research wants valuation and modeling language, while a treasury role wants cash management and forecasting terms. Swap in keywords from each job description so your resume mirrors the exact work the team does.
Show quantified outputs on your resume
Recruiters hiring finance interns expect numbers. Replace vague bullets like 'assisted with analysis' with outputs: how large the dataset was, how many companies you modeled, or how much cost your recommendation flagged. One concrete figure does more work than three adjectives.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists finance intern openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by function before you apply
Finance intern is a broad title covering corporate FP&A, investment banking, private equity, and accounting. Clarify which function you want before applying. Sending a modeling-heavy resume to a general accounting intern role, or the reverse, signals a mismatch before you get a call.
Prepare a case or model before interviews
Many finance intern interviews include a take-home model or an in-session case. Practice building a simple three-statement model or a DCF from scratch without help. Knowing the mechanics cold is more valuable than memorizing interview scripts.
Follow up after your interview with specifics
A follow-up note that references a specific deal, concept, or problem the interviewer mentioned lands better than a generic thank-you. It proves you were listening and gives the team one more reason to advocate for you before the offer decision.
Finance Intern Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most finance interns?
The companies hiring the most finance interns right now include NVR, Kiewit Corporation, and Turner Construction Company, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Ohio, and Wisconsin, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Openings are concentrated in banking, corporate finance, and fintech, though accounting firms and healthcare organizations also hire at scale.
How many finance intern jobs are remote?
About 65% of finance intern openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the highest remote share in FP&A, financial analysis, and accounting-focused roles. Investment banking and capital markets internships remain predominantly in-person, as they rely on close daily collaboration with deal teams and trading floors.
How do you become a finance intern?
To become a finance intern, enroll in a finance, accounting, or economics program at an accredited university, then build foundational Excel and financial modeling skills through coursework or self-study. Search for openings that match your function of interest, tailor your resume to each role, and apply before recruiting deadlines, which often close months before the internship start date.
How do you get a finance intern role with little or no experience?
Start by completing a relevant finance or accounting course and using any class projects or case competitions as resume evidence of analytical work. Apply to smaller companies, regional banks, and credit unions that recruit less competitively than large firms. A strong GPA, a polished Excel model from a class project, and a clear explanation of why you want the specific function can offset a thin work history.
What does the finance intern interview process look like?
Finance intern interviews typically start with a recruiter screen covering your background, coursework, and motivation for the role. A hiring manager or team interview follows, often including technical questions on financial statements, valuation concepts, or Excel mechanics. Some employers add a modeling test or case study, either take-home or completed live during the interview, before extending an offer.
Where can I find and apply to finance intern jobs?
You can find and apply to finance intern jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search for roles that match your function, skill set, and location preference, then apply directly to each listing that fits. New openings are added regularly, so checking back often gives you access to roles before they fill.
