Technical Architect Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical architect in Oklahoma?
Most technical architect roles in Oklahoma require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering followed by several years of hands-on experience in software development, infrastructure, or systems integration. Oklahoma does not issue a state-specific license for the technical architect role, so advancement depends on accumulating enterprise architecture experience and earning vendor-neutral credentials such as TOGAF or cloud provider certifications recognized by Oklahoma employers in energy, defense, and financial services.
How much do technical architects make in Oklahoma?
Technical architects in Oklahoma earn a median of about $109,450 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,290 for the lowest 10% to over $165,730 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical architects in Oklahoma?
Employers hiring technical architects in Oklahoma right now include Koch, AAON, and Goldbelt, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's energy sector, defense contractor community around Tinker Air Force Base, and growing financial services firms in Oklahoma City are among the most consistent sources of ongoing architecture openings in the state.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most technical architect jobs?
Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Norman have the most technical architect openings in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City dominates because of its concentration of corporate headquarters, state government technology programs, and the large defense and energy firms based there, while Tulsa's manufacturing and energy sector drives demand in the northeast, and suburban corridors around those two metros account for additional contractor and consultancy roles.
Are there remote technical architect jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 20% of technical architect openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on design, documentation, and stakeholder sessions that translate well to distributed work. Cloud and enterprise architecture specialties tend to carry the highest proportion of remote-eligible postings, while roles tied to on-premises infrastructure or classified defense environments typically require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a technical architect in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into architecture from a senior developer, infrastructure engineer, or systems analyst role, which Oklahoma employers in energy and financial services regularly treat as a direct pipeline. Firms such as Devon Energy and large Oklahoma City-based insurance companies often post associate or staff-level architecture roles that emphasize potential and certifications over years of pure architecture title experience. Earning a cloud certification such as AWS Solutions Architect Associate or completing TOGAF Foundation strengthens a candidate's profile considerably before applying.
