Job Summary
As an Automotive Transmission R&R Technician, you’ll remove and reinstall transmissions, inspect related powertrain components, and help return vehicles to safe, reliable operation. You’ll use automotive diagnostics, schematics, and mechanical knowledge to identify concerns and complete repairs accurately. Your impact: Careful transmission work helps drivers get back on the road with dependable vehicles and clear, professional service.
Responsibilities
- Remove, install, and repair transmissions and related mechanical systems; perform road tests and verify completed work.
- Diagnose vehicle concerns and support powertrain, diesel engine, and automotive electrical systems repair.
- Perform vehicle maintenance and automotive service, including oil changes, tire service, alignment, brake repair, suspension work, and shocks and struts.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely; interpret schematics and assist with air brake, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), welding, and heavy equipment repairs as needed.
- Document findings, support auto estimating, and communicate repair needs with customers and teammates.
Requirements
- Mechanic experience and experience working in the automotive repair industry; dealership experience and familiarity with GM vehicles are preferred.
- Practical knowledge of transmissions, transmission repair, automotive diagnostics, powertrain, mechanical repair, and maintenance.
- Experience with automotive suspension system repair, suspension, brake repair, alignment, tire service, shocks and struts, and vehicle maintenance is an asset.
- Familiarity with diesel mechanics, diesel engine repair, heavy equipment mechanics, air brake systems, ADAS, automotive electrical systems, welding, and schematics is preferred.
- Strong customer service, safe use of hand tools and power tools, and the ability to work carefully as part of an automotive service team.
