Construction Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction in Texas?
The path into construction in Texas depends on your trade, but most workers start through a registered apprenticeship or a vocational program at a Texas community college. Electricians and plumbers must obtain a state license through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which requires documented work hours and a written exam. General laborers and carpenters typically enter through employer-sponsored apprenticeships affiliated with programs like the Texas Association of Builders or local AGC chapters.
Which companies hire constructions in Texas?
Employers hiring constructions in Texas right now include TIC - The Industrial Company, Fluor, and Suffolk Construction, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's sustained population growth and active infrastructure pipeline mean large general contractors and homebuilders maintain continuous hiring across multiple job classifications year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most construction jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin have the most construction openings in Texas right now. Houston leads because of its energy infrastructure and port expansion projects, Dallas-Fort Worth draws volume from commercial real estate and highway development, and San Antonio's steady residential growth and military installation projects keep demand consistent for both trade and supervisory roles.
Are there remote construction jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 6% of construction openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the fundamentally hands-on, site-based nature of most construction work. The roles most likely to be remote are construction project coordinators, estimators, and BIM or CAD technicians whose work is document-driven rather than physically on site.
How can I get hired as a construction in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to a registered apprenticeship program through a Texas-based trade association such as the Associated General Contractors of Texas or the Independent Electrical Contractors Texas-Oklahoma chapter. Large Texas homebuilders like D.R. Horton and Lennar run structured new-hire programs for laborers with no prior experience. Starting as a general laborer, material handler, or construction helper while pursuing an OSHA 10-Hour certification gives candidates a meaningful edge in the hiring process.
Where can I find and apply to construction jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to construction jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings posted by employers hiring across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your trade and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
