Therapist Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a therapist job in Boston?
The strongest hiring in Boston comes from academic medical centers in the Longwood Medical Area, community health centers in neighborhoods like Roxbury and Dorchester, and private group practices in Back Bay and Brookline. Candidates with licensure in progress and experience in trauma-informed care, substance use treatment, or adolescent mental health tend to stand out. Bilingual Spanish or Portuguese fluency is a meaningful edge in Boston's community health sector.
Which companies hire therapists in Boston?
Employers hiring therapists in Boston right now include Beth Israel Lahey Health, American Traveler, and HiredFirst, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Boston's therapist market is anchored by large hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, and a dense network of outpatient group practices serving the region.
Are there remote therapist jobs in Boston?
Yes, though remote availability depends heavily on the setting, since many therapist roles require in-person sessions or facility-based work. About 14% of therapist openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with telehealth positions most common in outpatient behavioral health and employee assistance programs rather than inpatient or school-based roles.
How can I get a therapist job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Boston is a practicum or internship placement at a community health center, hospital affiliate, or school-based program, many of which convert to paid positions. Employers like federally qualified health centers in Roxbury and South Boston and college counseling centers frequently hire associate-level clinicians working toward licensure. Completing supervised hours at a Boston employer already familiar with your work is the most direct path to a first paid role.
Which industries hire the most therapists in Boston?
Boston therapist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, and Sports & Recreation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Boston's concentration of world-class hospitals, universities, and community health organizations makes it one of the denser behavioral health job markets on the East Coast, sustaining steady demand well beyond what the city's population alone would suggest.
