Therapist Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a therapist in Massachusetts?
Licensure in Massachusetts is handled by the Board of Registration of Social Workers, the Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions, or the Board of Registration of Marriage and Family Therapy, depending on your credential path. Most therapist roles require at minimum a master's degree in a clinical field followed by supervised post-graduate hours, then a passing score on the relevant board exam, such as the LCSW, LMHC, or LMFT.
Which companies hire therapists in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring therapists in Massachusetts right now include Edu-Aids, HiredFirst, and White Glove Placement, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's large integrated health systems and community behavioral health centers account for a substantial share of consistent, year-round openings across the state.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most therapist jobs?
Boston, Worcester, and Plymouth have the most therapist openings in Massachusetts. Boston drives the largest volume through its dense concentration of academic medical centers, community health centers, and outpatient behavioral health practices, while Worcester and Springfield reflect the strong regional demand tied to community mental health agencies and hospital systems serving those metro areas.
Are there remote therapist jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most clinical roles. About 33% of therapist openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how widely telehealth expanded across the state following the pandemic. Individual outpatient therapy and substance use counseling tend to be the most remote-compatible, while group therapy, crisis services, and school-based roles generally require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a therapist in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a post-graduate clinician or licensed-eligible role at a Massachusetts community mental health agency, which typically provides the required supervised hours toward full licensure. Organizations such as Vinfen, the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership network, and large federally qualified health centers regularly hire associate-level clinicians and new graduates. Completing your supervised hours under a qualified Massachusetts supervisor and holding a provisional LMHC or LCSW designation gives candidates a clear edge over those without any credential in progress.
Where can I find and apply to therapist jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to therapist jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Find a role that fits your specialty and location, then apply directly.
