Therapist Jobs in Grand Rapids: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a therapist job in Grand Rapids?
The strongest hiring in Grand Rapids comes from behavioral health agencies, hospital-affiliated outpatient clinics, and K-12 school districts, particularly along the Medical Mile and in the Kentwood and Wyoming suburbs. Candidates who hold an LPC or LMSW licensure in Michigan and have experience with trauma-informed care or substance use treatment stand out. Familiarity with community mental health settings also gives applicants a clear edge in this market.
Which companies hire therapists in Grand Rapids?
Employers hiring therapists in Grand Rapids right now include Corewell Health, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, and Trinity Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Grand Rapids draws a broad mix of employer types, from large regional health systems and federally qualified health centers to private group practices and nonprofit community mental health organizations.
Are there remote therapist jobs in Grand Rapids?
Yes, though remote availability for therapists is more limited than in purely desk-based roles, since many positions require in-person client sessions. About 11% of therapist openings tied to Grand Rapids are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. Telehealth counseling roles and administrative or care-coordination positions within larger health systems tend to offer the most remote flexibility locally.
How can I get a therapist job in Grand Rapids with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Grand Rapids is through supervised clinical positions at community mental health centers or school-based mental health programs, which regularly hire associate-level candidates working toward full licensure. Entry roles such as mental health technician, case manager, or counseling intern at organizations serving Kent County residents can open the door. Completing practicum or internship hours at a Grand Rapids-area agency often leads directly to a hire.
Which industries hire the most therapists in Grand Rapids?
Most therapist openings in Grand Rapids sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, Insurance, and Agriculture & Farming, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Grand Rapids anchors one of Michigan's largest regional healthcare ecosystems, and steady investment in behavioral health infrastructure across hospital networks and nonprofit service providers keeps demand for licensed therapists consistently high.
