Child and Family Therapist (LMFT – Medicaid & Grant-Funded Programs)

Funding: Grant-Funded & NC Medicaid-Reimbursable Services

Preferred Licenses: (LMFT, LCSW, LMHC, or LMHP): Must have experience with child and family. Prefer expereince with with play therapy.

Position Overview (Grant-Funded / Medicaid Language)

The Child and Family Therapist provides Medicaid-eligible, evidence-based therapeutic services to substance-using women and their children, in compliance with NC DHHS clinical standards, Medicaid service definitions, and grant funding requirements.

This position delivers individual, group, and family therapy, parenting education, and developmental support using trauma-informed, family-centered, and person-centered approaches. The therapist collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and community partners to ensure coordinated care, continuity of services, and improved clinical outcomes for a high-risk population.

Primary Outcome:
To improve family functioning, child development, treatment engagement, and long-term recovery outcomes through clinically sound, compliant, and outcome-driven programming.

Essential FunctionsClinical & Therapeutic Services

• Provide Medicaid-billable individual, group, and family therapy
• Deliver evidence-based interventions for co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders
• Apply trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate clinical practices
• Provide crisis intervention, safety assessments, and safety planning
• Monitor client progress, safety, and medication-related concerns
• Identify relapse indicators and implement clinical interventions

Parenting & Family Interventions

• Plan and facilitate parenting education groups and therapeutic interventions
• Support positive parenting practices and parenting while in recovery
• Educate families on child development and attachment
• Engage families as active participants in goal-setting and treatment planning
• Teach and model relational and independent living skills

Child & Developmental Services

• Conduct developmental screenings for children and adolescents
• Coordinate referrals for identified developmental, behavioral, or medical needs
• Monitor follow-through and outcomes of referrals

Care Coordination & Collaboration

• Collaborate with medical, dental, speech, nutrition, and behavioral health providers (with consent)
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case consultations, and clinical supervision
• Contribute to Person-Centered Plans (PCPs) and ongoing clinical assessments
• Engage natural supports and family members with documented consent

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete timely, accurate, and Medicaid-compliant clinical documentation
• Submit daily service tickets and required logs
• Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly program and grant reports
• Complete incident and accident reports per NC DHHS requirements
• Maintain compliance with ethical, licensing, and confidentiality standards

Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)

Applicants must meet all criteria to be considered:

• Master’s degree in Human Services or related clinical field
• Active, unrestricted North Carolina LMFT license
• Minimum one (1) year of clinical experience working with children and families
• Experience with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions preferred
• Valid driver’s license with excellent driving record and adequate auto insurance
• Ability to meet NC DHHS background check and credentialing requirements

Physical & Work Environment

• Regular standing, walking, sitting, and computer use
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally
• Exposure to infectious illness and emotionally intense situations
• Occasional outdoor exposure
• Potential for extended shifts based on program needs
