Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Development Director
Frame your credentials around TN categories
Development Director roles don't have a dedicated TN category. Tie your application to the specific USMCA category your background qualifies under, such as Engineer or Management Consultant, and match your degree directly to that classification.
Target employers with existing TN infrastructure
Search for organizations experienced with visa sponsorship, particularly nonprofits, universities, and technology companies. These employers with recent visa filings already understand work visa sponsorship processes and documentation requirements, which can streamline the hiring timeline considerably.
Get your educational credentials evaluated early
Mexican professionals with degrees from Mexican institutions should obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized evaluator before starting the job search. Officers at U.S. consulates assess equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's degree, and gaps in documentation slow approval.
Negotiate the TN filing process into your offer
Once you have an offer, confirm in writing that the employer will prepare a support letter and be ready to present it at your port of entry before your start date. Development Directors sometimes face delays when employers treat TN documentation as an afterthought rather than a hiring step.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify Development Director roles at employers who actively sponsor TN visas. Filtering by sponsorship history saves time and connects you directly to organizations already set up to file the required documentation.
Prepare a role-specific support letter for entry
Canadian citizens presenting at the port of entry need a detailed employer support letter that maps the Development Director duties to the specific TN category claimed. Vague letters citing general management functions are a common reason for secondary inspection.

Find Development Director JobsDevelopment Director TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Development Director role qualify for a TN visa?
It can, but not automatically. The TN visa requires your role to fit a recognized USMCA professional category. Development Directors whose work is rooted in engineering, scientific analysis, or management consulting can qualify under those respective categories. The job duties and your academic credentials must align with the specific category the employer uses to file.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Development Director positions?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start as soon as documentation is approved rather than waiting for an October 1 start date. H-1B requires employer sponsorship through a competitive selection process that can take over a year. For Development Directors who qualify under a TN category, TN is faster and more predictable, though it doesn't lead to permanent residency on its own.
Where can I find Development Director jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Development Director roles at employers who sponsor TN visas, so you're not sorting through listings from organizations unprepared to handle USMCA-based applications. Filtering by visa type and role narrows results to positions where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process.
What documents does a Mexican citizen need to apply for a TN visa as a Development Director?
You'll need a valid Mexican passport, a detailed offer letter from the U.S. employer describing your duties and the specific TN professional category, proof of your qualifying degree or credentials, and a completed DS-160 application. Your employer must also prepare a support letter outlining the role, your qualifications, and how you meet TN requirements before your consular interview. Credential evaluations may be required if your degree is from a Mexican institution.
Can a Canadian Development Director apply for TN status at the border?
Yes. Canadian citizens are eligible to apply for TN status directly at a U.S. port of entry or preclearance location without a prior visa appointment. You'll present your employer's support letter, evidence of your professional category qualifications, and proof of your educational credentials. The CBP officer reviews and adjudicates on the spot, which means same-day approval is possible if your documentation is complete.
