Align your credentials to Engineer category
TN classification for this role falls under the Engineer category, not a generic management track. Your degree must be in an engineering discipline. A business or PMP credential alone won't satisfy the requirement; the engineering foundation is what CBP is evaluating.
Document the technical scope of your role
CBP officers distinguish Engineering Project Managers from general operations managers by the technical content of the work. Ask your employer to spell out engineering deliverables, systems, or infrastructure in the support letter, not just team oversight and budget responsibility.
Target employers with active infrastructure or R&D projects
Companies running capital construction, product development, or systems integration programs need Engineering Project Managers and are structured to support TN sponsorship. Utilities, defense contractors, and advanced manufacturers routinely hire for this role under USMCA.
Search for TN-sponsored roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Engineering Project Manager jobs by employers that have sponsored TN visas before. That filter removes most of the guesswork and gets your applications in front of companies already familiar with the process.
Prepare for port-of-entry adjudication as a Canadian
Canadian citizens can receive TN status at a land border or preclearance airport without advance filing. Bring your degree transcripts, a detailed employer support letter, and your offer letter. Officers can ask detailed questions about how your role is distinct from general management.
Confirm your employer prepares the support letter before you travel
Mexican citizens require consular TN processing, and your employer must prepare a support letter detailing your role, qualifications, and TN eligibility before you apply at a U.S. consulate. Ensure your employer completes this support letter and you have all required documentation—including your degree, job offer, and proof of Mexican citizenship—ready before scheduling your consulate appointment.

Find Engineering Project Manager JobsEngineering Project Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Engineering Project Manager role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, if the role is grounded in engineering work. TN classification uses the Engineer category under USMCA, so CBP will look at whether the job involves applying engineering principles, not just managing teams or budgets. Your offer letter and employer support letter need to reflect technical scope, not just project coordination.
How does TN visa sponsorship for this role compare to H-1B?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start immediately once you have a job offer and the right credentials. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance and selection through a random lottery. For Engineering Project Managers with an engineering degree and a qualifying U.S. offer, TN is a faster and more predictable path than H-1B.
What documents does your employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer needs to prepare a support letter that describes your role, confirms your engineering credentials meet the position's requirements, states your employment terms, and affirms your TN status eligibility. For Mexican citizens, you'll apply at a U.S. consulate with this support letter and required documentation. Canadian citizens present these documents directly at the port of entry when entering the U.S.
Where can you find Engineering Project Manager jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Engineering Project Manager roles specifically filtered by employers with TN visa sponsorship history. That means you're not cold-applying to companies that have never handled USMCA processing before. Employers with prior TN experience move faster and are less likely to back out when the paperwork starts.
Can a Mexican citizen get TN status for an Engineering Project Manager role at a U.S. land border?
No. Mexican citizens must apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate in Mexico, not at a port of entry. The process requires a support letter from the employer, a valid job offer, proof of engineering credentials, and a consular interview. Only Canadian citizens are eligible for port-of-entry TN admission, where they can present their support letter directly at the border.
