Frame your credentials around USMCA categories
TN visa approval hinges on mapping your Project Executive role to a recognized USMCA category, typically Management Consultant or Engineer. Gather degree transcripts, professional designations like PMP, and a degree-to-role equivalency letter before any employer conversation begins.
Target employers with active project portfolios
Construction firms, infrastructure developers, and large IT delivery organizations routinely hire Project Executives and understand multi-year project scoping. Prioritize employers running federally contracted or cross-border projects, as they're already familiar with USMCA-category workers and international hiring logistics.
Get your offer letter TN-ready before you sign
Your offer letter must name the USMCA category, describe qualifying duties in specialty terms, and state a defined end date. A letter that says 'Project Executive' without tying responsibilities to consulting or engineering functions is a common reason CBP requests clarification at the border.
Search for sponsoring employers using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Project Executive roles by employers with verified TN visa sponsorship history, saving you from negotiating from scratch with hiring managers who've never processed a TN petition before.
Clarify the consulting versus employee distinction early
Employers and CBP scrutinize whether a Project Executive is functioning as a true consultant or simply filling a permanent staff role. If the employer controls all daily outputs and the engagement has no defined project scope, CBP may deny TN status at the port of entry.
Prepare for Mexican national consular processing timelines
Mexican professionals apply through a U.S. consulate rather than at the land border, adding scheduling lead time to your start date planning. Request that your employer align the offer letter's start date with realistic consular appointment availability in your city.
Project Executive TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Executive role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
It can, but qualification depends on how the role is structured. Project Executive positions typically qualify under the Management Consultant or Engineer USMCA category. The job duties must involve specialized advisory or technical oversight functions, not general management. If the role is framed as a staff leadership position without a defined consulting or project scope, CBP may question TN eligibility at the border.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Project Executive jobs?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, making it far more predictable than H-1B visa for Project Executive roles. H-1B selection is randomized and limited to 85,000 slots per fiscal year. TN approval can happen the same day at a Canadian port of entry. The tradeoff is that TN requires a USMCA-listed category match and does not confer dual intent, so long-term green card planning requires separate strategy.
Where can I find Project Executive jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals searching for U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. You can filter by job title and visa type to surface employers who already understand the TN process, which removes the burden of explaining USMCA categories during salary negotiations or offer-stage conversations.
Can a Mexican citizen get TN sponsorship for a Project Executive role?
Yes, Mexican nationals can obtain TN status for qualifying Project Executive positions, but the process differs from the Canadian path. Mexican applicants must apply at a U.S. consulate and receive a TN visa stamp before entry, rather than seeking admission directly at a land border port. Build extra lead time into your start date, as consular appointment availability varies significantly by location and season.
What documents does my employer need to file for TN sponsorship?
Your employer provides a detailed support letter naming the USMCA category, describing your specialized duties, confirming the project scope and end date, and stating your professional credentials. You bring this letter along with your degree, professional certifications, and valid passport. For Canadian citizens, this package is presented directly to CBP at the port of entry. USCIS adjudicates TN petitions only when filed by employers on behalf of workers already in the U.S.
