Frame your credentials around advisory functions
TN classification for Program Managers typically relies on the Management Consultant category, which requires demonstrating advisory work, not just execution. Gather documentation showing you evaluate systems, recommend organizational changes, or guide strategic planning.
Target employers with dedicated HR compliance teams
Companies with in-house immigration coordinators move faster on TN filings because they already understand the documentation requirements. Look for mid-to-large organizations in technology, healthcare, or government contracting where program management is a core operational function.
Clarify the job description before signing an offer
A Program Manager title that reads as purely operational rather than advisory can create classification problems at the border or consulate. Ask the employer to align the written job duties with consulting, evaluation, or recommendations before the offer letter is finalized.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsorship-ready openings
Not every Program Manager posting includes TN visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters specifically for roles with TN sponsorship, saving you time screening out positions from employers who won't support the filing process.
Prepare a degree-to-role equivalency statement
If your bachelor's degree is in a field like engineering or public administration rather than business management, prepare a written explanation connecting your credentials to the Program Manager duties. CBP officers and consular officers make this determination case by case.
Understand that Canadians can file at the port of entry
Canadian citizens don't need to wait for USCIS processing. You can present your TN application, employer support letter, and credentials directly at a U.S. land border or pre-clearance location the day your role begins, often receiving same-day admission.

Find Program Manager JobsProgram Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Program Manager role actually qualify for TN visa status?
Program Manager positions qualify under the TN Management Consultant category, but the job duties must reflect consulting, analysis, or advisory work rather than purely internal operational management. The offer letter and employer support letter need to frame your responsibilities around evaluating processes, recommending improvements, or guiding organizational planning. A title alone is not sufficient for TN classification.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Program Manager roles?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start a Program Manager role as soon as the employer is ready to file, without waiting for an October start date or a lottery selection. H-1B requires entering a random lottery each spring. The tradeoff is that TN is nonimmigrant intent, so it doesn't support a direct path to a green card the way H-1B can.
Where can I find Program Manager jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, so you end up screening dozens of postings manually before finding employers who will support a TN filing. Migrate Mate surfaces only positions where sponsorship is confirmed.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer needs to issue a detailed support letter on company letterhead that specifies your job title, a description of duties that aligns with the Management Consultant category, your anticipated start date, the employment arrangement (full-time or project-based), and confirmation that you hold the required credentials. The letter is central to the adjudication and should be drafted carefully alongside your degree certificates and any professional credentials.
Can I switch Program Manager employers while on TN status?
You can change employers, but TN status is employer-specific, so your current authorization does not transfer automatically. You need a new TN approval tied to the incoming employer before you start working for them. Canadian citizens can obtain this at the border. Mexican citizens must go through a new consular appointment. There is no USCIS portability provision for TN the way AC21 applies to H-1B.
