Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Project Specialist
Align your credentials to a TN category
Project Specialist isn't a named TN category, so your degree and job duties must map to Management Consultant or another qualifying occupation. A mismatch between your credentials and the listed category is the most common reason TN admission gets refused.
Request a support letter before you apply
Your employer's TN support letter must describe your specific project duties, confirm the professional-level nature of the work, and state that no labor displacement is occurring. Vague letters stall entry at the border or delay consular appointments for Mexican nationals.
Target employers with cross-border project portfolios
Companies managing U.S.-Canada or U.S.-Mexico operations regularly hire Project Specialists under TN status because they understand the visa category. Look for firms in construction, infrastructure, IT, and manufacturing that operate facilities on both sides of the border.
Use Migrate Mate to filter TN-sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers that actively sponsor TN visas for professional roles. Filtering by visa type and job function saves you from applying to companies unfamiliar with USMCA categories, where you'd spend your time educating HR instead of advancing through hiring.
Confirm Canadian vs. Mexican entry procedures upfront
Canadian citizens present TN documentation directly at a U.S. port of entry without advance USCIS filing. Mexican citizens must obtain approval at a U.S. consulate before traveling. Clarify which process applies to you before accepting an offer so the employer can prepare the correct documentation timeline.
Negotiate the TN filing timeline into your offer
If you're a Mexican national, consular appointment availability varies by city and season. Build the processing window into your start date negotiation so neither you nor the employer is caught short when an appointment slot is weeks out.

Find Project Specialist JobsProject Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Project Specialist qualify as a TN visa occupation?
Project Specialist is not listed by name in the USMCA TN occupations schedule. To qualify, your role must fit under a recognized category, most commonly Management Consultant. Your job duties must involve specialized advisory or analytical work requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. A generic project coordinator role is unlikely to qualify; a specialist driving enterprise-level process improvements is a much stronger fit.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Project Specialist roles?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and no USCIS petition waiting period for Canadians entering at the border. H-1B requires an employer to file a petition, enter a lottery with roughly a 25-percent selection rate in recent years, and wait months for adjudication. For Canadian Project Specialists, TN is a significantly faster path. Mexican nationals still face a consular process, but they bypass the H-1B lottery entirely.
What documents does your employer need to prepare for your TN application?
Your employer must produce a TN support letter on company letterhead stating your job title, duties, the TN category being claimed, the professional nature of the position, and your start and end dates. You'll also need your degree credentials and any transcripts that confirm your field of study matches the role. Canadian citizens bring these documents to the port of entry; Mexican nationals submit them as part of a consular visa application.
Where can you find Project Specialist jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by visa type, which means you spend significant time identifying whether each employer will sponsor TN status. Migrate Mate is built specifically for USMCA professionals and lets you search Project Specialist openings by visa category, so you're only seeing roles where sponsorship is already confirmed. That narrows your outreach to employers who understand the TN process and are prepared to support your application.
Can you switch employers on a TN visa if you find a better Project Specialist role?
Yes. TN status is employer-specific, but switching is straightforward. As a Canadian citizen, you can present new TN documentation at a U.S. port of entry for your new employer without USCIS involvement. Mexican nationals need a new consular appointment. You cannot start work for the new employer until the new TN is approved, so plan the transition window with both your outgoing and incoming employer.
