Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Program Director
Frame your degree against the role classification
CBP officers at the port of entry decide which TN category your Program Director role fits. Bring documentation showing your degree aligns with the specific duties listed in your offer letter, not just your job title.
Request a duty-by-duty offer letter
Vague offer letters citing 'program oversight' get scrutinized. Ask your employer to describe each core function, the population served, the reporting structure, and how the role requires professional-level expertise in your degree field.
Filter employers by recent visa filings before applying
Target organizations with recent visa filings or experience sponsoring work visas for similar roles. Nonprofits, universities, and healthcare systems regularly hire Program Directors and often have immigration counsel already engaged. These employers are typically familiar with visa sponsorship processes and can prepare the support letter required for TN status at the port of entry or consulate.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers faster
Search Program Director openings by TN visa sponsorship status on Migrate Mate. The platform surfaces employers actively open to Canadian and Mexican professionals, saving you from screening roles that don't support TN.
Address the Management Consultant category explicitly
If your employer can't slot the role under a scientific or technical category, the Management Consultant designation covers Program Directors advising on organizational processes. Your offer letter must specify you're providing advisory, not ongoing operational, services.

Find Program Director JobsProgram Director TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Program Director role qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the role is defined and which TN category it falls under. Program Directors whose work requires applying specialized knowledge from a relevant bachelor's degree, such as public health, education administration, or social work, can qualify under categories like Scientific Technician or Management Consultant. The offer letter must connect the duties directly to your credentialed field.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Program Director roles?
TN has no annual lottery and no numerical cap for Canadian citizens, meaning you can start work as soon as CBP approves you at the port of entry. H-1B requires lottery selection, which happens once per year with no guarantee of a slot. For Mexican citizens, TN still avoids the lottery but involves consular processing. Both require employer sponsorship and a qualifying job offer.
Can I search for Program Director jobs that specifically support TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Migrate Mate lets you filter Program Director openings by TN visa sponsorship status, so you're only reviewing roles from employers who have indicated they'll support Canadian and Mexican professionals. This removes the step of contacting employers individually to ask about their immigration policies before applying.
What documents should I bring to a Canadian port of entry for TN admission as a Program Director?
Bring your original offer letter describing your duties, compensation, and employment period; proof of your qualifying degree or professional credentials; and your Canadian passport. If your degree was earned outside Canada, include a credential evaluation. CBP officers make the admission decision on the spot, so completeness matters more than length.
What happens to my TN status if my employer restructures my Program Director role?
A material change in duties, reporting structure, or project scope can put your TN status at risk if the role drifts outside the category under which you were admitted. Your employer should notify you of any significant restructuring and, if needed, file an amended TN petition or support a new port-of-entry admission under a corrected offer letter before the change takes effect.
