Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Financial Director
Align your credentials to Accountant classification
TN sponsorship for Financial Directors files under the Accountant occupational category. Your degree must be in accounting, finance, economics, or a closely related field. A general business degree alone can trigger a denial at the port of entry.
Target employers with recent visa filing experience
Search for employers with recent visa filings in finance and accounting roles. Companies experienced with visa sponsorship already understand the sponsorship process and are far less likely to reject your application over unfamiliarity with work visa procedures. These employers have demonstrated they're willing to support international talent, making them ideal targets for TN candidates seeking a support letter from their prospective employer.
Frame your offer letter around specialty duties
Your employer's offer letter must describe duties specific to financial leadership, not general management. Controllers reviewing budgets and CFOs directing capital allocation qualify. A letter that emphasizes broad operational oversight without finance-specific language raises TN adjudication risk.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search for Financial Director roles with TN sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which filters positions by employers already open to USMCA-based hiring. This cuts out the back-and-forth of educating employers about TN eligibility from scratch.
Prepare for Mexican nationals' consulate appointment requirements
Unlike Canadians who can seek TN admission at a port of entry, Mexican nationals must schedule a U.S. consulate appointment and obtain a TN visa stamp before entering. Factor consulate wait times into your start-date negotiations with the employer.
Clarify CPA licensure expectations before accepting an offer
The TN Accountant category does not require a CPA license, but many U.S. employers list it as a requirement for Financial Director roles. Confirm whether licensure is a legal job requirement or a preference before the offer stage to avoid late-breaking complications.

Find Financial Director JobsFinancial Director TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Financial Director role qualify for TN visa status?
Financial Director positions qualify under the TN Accountant occupational category, which covers roles requiring theoretical and practical application of accounting or financial principles. Your degree must be in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. Roles that are primarily operational or general management without a finance-specific degree requirement may not qualify under this category.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Financial Director roles?
TN visa sponsorship for Financial Directors avoids the H-1B annual lottery entirely, meaning there is no random selection process and no fixed annual cap for Canadian nationals. Canadians can receive TN admission at a port of entry the same day. Mexican nationals require a consulate appointment but still skip the lottery. Both avoid the multi-year H-1B wait that often delays senior finance hires.
What documents does a Financial Director need for TN sponsorship?
You need an employer offer letter describing your finance-specific duties and confirming you hold a qualifying degree, your original academic credentials, and proof of Canadian or Mexican citizenship. Canadians present these at the port of entry. Mexican nationals submit them as part of their consulate visa application. A credentials evaluation may be required if your degree was issued outside North America.
How do I find Financial Director jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Financial Director roles specifically filtered for employers open to TN visa sponsorship, which removes the need to screen dozens of postings manually. Many finance leadership roles are open to TN candidates but do not advertise it prominently, so using a platform built around USMCA-based hiring significantly narrows your search to relevant opportunities.
Can a Financial Director on TN status move to a new employer?
Yes, but you cannot simply transfer your TN status the way an H-1B holder ports a petition. Your new employer must issue a fresh offer letter, and Canadians can begin that new TN admission at the port of entry. Mexican nationals need a new consulate appointment. You should not resign from your current role until the new TN documentation is ready to file.
